So after 5 years of shelving books, let me say, if I'm ever the author of a series of books, I'll make a point to have the number of the series on the spine, and just to be safe, I'll make sure every book in the series is in alphabetical order:

Alan Harper and the Apple of Discord
Alan Harper and the Boa Constrictor
Alan Harper and Cosmic Conundrum

It's little things like this that you always wish people would do to make your life easier.
