Tactical Retreat [OTA]

May 27, 2009 17:15

Fox didn't run away. She did, however, choose not to stick around after something if she could help it. Leaving after their rendezvous on the beach was something Fox wanted to do. It was too weird waking up in the same bed as Rob, even if they'd managed to make it back to his room somewhere in the early hours of the morning. Sand in unusual places ( Read more... )

Rob had always been a light sleeper. Probably something to do with being a soldier, part of him was generally always on alert to changes around him. This morning, however, it did take a bit more than usual for him to rouse and it was only when he heard his room door click closed that he shot up in bed aware something had changed ( ... )

At first Fox had been ready to dismiss whoever dared to intercept her, and nearly growled. She was stopped short by Rob's words, and frowned at him. "I didn't want to stay. It has nothing to do with your bodily functions, however noisy." She looked him over, taking in the sweatpants, and bare feet. "Miss me already?"

"Just curious," Rob replied and then stepped out of her way, gesturing out the door. He held her gaze for a few moments before continuing. "Who am I to get in the way of what you didn't want to do."

Fox glanced at the door as her weight shifted, and her gaze locked with Rob's again. Her lips pressed together and the frown faded as her expression softened. Then she seemed to show something akin to embarrassment. "I don't know how to stay," she said quietly. Her eyes flicked away again, and she cleared her throat.

Rob wet his lips and then smiled. He stepped forward and gave her a soft nudge with his shoulder. "It's not that hard you know. Instead of getting up and running entirely too fast for a chick in boots like that, you just stay naked and lie there. Then you pointedly and 'accidentally' knee me in the groin so I wake up and have to keep you occupied. I curse you, flip you off, then we have angry sex. Enough angry sex to make us starving, then we call room service, and you stay even longer to gorge on burgers and fries."

Fox's interest had definitely been piqued by the angry sex, and when Rob talked about staying, he did make it sound appealing. She smiled a little, and looked at him again. "Burgers for breakfast? You know, you're getting to know me far too well. I'm not sure I like it."

"Don't expect me to start wearing heels like that," Rob sniggered. He hooked his thumbs into the pockets of the track pants and cleared his throat. "You're alright with what happened, yeah? I mean, it wasn't just one random fuck. You probably stuck around longer than you usually do as it is, but let's just blame the sea air for that. It's just, if you want this to just stop at that, it's cool. I'll back off and I'll understand. I'd like it much more if you didn't want me to, though."

"Why?" Fox frowned as the question came out, and huffed out a breath in annoyance with herself. It wasn't a question she had wanted to ask, but it slipped out anyway. She held a hand up to stop him from answering if he was going to, and just stayed quiet for a long moment. She had stuck around longer than she would normally have, and it was easy to play along with blaming the sea air. She moved closer to Rob, blue eyes analysing him before she arched an eyebrow. "Does this mean we go back up to your room, or have I ruined the moment?"

Rob had stayed quiet while she worked to regain her composure. He wasn't here to make things awkward or weird for her. If she wanted to leave it at one night, he really would just step back and let her get on with whatever it was she did during her island existence. He didn't necessarily have to like it, but he would respect it. "Well, I don't know about you, but after spending all night fucking like we did, it's far too freaking early to be up and around yet. Or clothed, for that matter. But if you don't want to join me..." He trailed off, letting her fill in the gaps.

"I do," Fox admitted softly, the corners of her mouth tugging up into a smile as she saw the amusement in her chosen words. She reached out, her tattooed hand brushing against his before her fingers curled around it and she tugged him back in the direction of the elevators. If she didn't stop to think about it, she wasn't going to talk herself out of things. Rob knew more and more of the little things about her now. He'd even brushed his fingers against her scar, but hadn't asked about it. Unlike with Wesley she wasn't about to offer up her story yet. It wasn't going to serve a purpose, not like convincing Wesley that what the Fraternity did was for the greater good. "You do realise you're far too endearing for your own good, don't you?"

Rob followed her with a laugh. "And I wasn't even trying. I just knew I was standing in the lobby barefoot and commando when I could be naked in bed with some pretty awesome company. You had me worried for a minute that maybe I confessed an undying love to you in my sleep or worse," he admitted as they reached the elevators. "I just want to... live a little. Not think. Just do. No tactics, no plans, no orders, no commands, no fucking vows. This whole walking away thing, just so you know, you can do it whenever you want. I only followed you now because I wasn't sure we were done with each other yet."

"Maybe I wanted to go back more than I admitted, even to myself," Fox conceded with a smirk. "I think I might have left a lot earlier had there been any undying love confessions. I don't do undying love, and hearts, and flowers." As they waited, Fox crossed her arms again, her fingers digging into her skin. "What if we're never done with each other?"

Rob raised an eyebrow. "No, flowers, huh? Because you don't want them or because no one has ever gotten close enough to give them to you? Or are you just more the edible knickers type?" he added with a devious smirk. "Then you'll have to get better at this staying thing, because you really suck at it right now. No undying love confessions and no more boozing like a horny teenager." He crossed his fingers across his chest. "Cross my heart."

Fox smiled wryly. "No one has ever gotten close enough. Edible knickers are..." her face scrunched up a little before she laughed, "not my style. The panties that are involved should be ripped off, or not worn at all. And skimpy." She stepped into the elevator and tilted her head as she waited for him to join him. "How is that insatiable horniness of yours going? Better now you've had a work out?"

"Their loss," Rob returned lightly as he stepped into elevator beside her and pressed his floor number. "Last time I tried the edible knickers thing, I broke out in a rash that totally killed the mood, so that's fortunate," he laughed.

His eyes moved from the illuminated numbers back to her face. "I don't think my cock and balls are at risk of falling off anymore, but I'm sure it wouldn't take much to recharge."

Fox managed a grin as she reached out to place her hands on his hips and turned to face him. "Good, because it really would be a loss. They're so much more useful attached to your body. So are you a flowers kind of guy?"
