Memory can be a Blow

Jan 02, 2010 23:37

She'd found out where her room was and climbed the inside steps at the resort, glad for Jack's directions to the hotel, even though he'd walked her there, saying again he wouldn't let a hysterical woman alone on her own. It had made Katherine smile, and as she'd said goodbye and thank you at the entrance, she'd been glad for the company.

Katherine looked up again. There was the first guy who'd come to say hi standing there (who was he?), and the man who'd met her on the beach, Jack, had just stepped into the room.

"Yeah, I'm fine." She wiped away the tears with the back of her hand, leaving mascara streaks. "Just found this photo and it reminded me of...before."

"Heeey Jack," John drawls, he's always happy to see him! "You know this gorgeous creature?" He gestures towards Katherine.

He tilts his head curiously at her tears. "It can't be that bad...I hope..."

Smiling through the tears, Katherine watched as the mystery man greeted Jack. They seemed to know each other well.

"It's not that bad, just...memories. Rise up and blow you over." Turning, she found a box of tissues next to the TV and wiped the mascara so it didn't make her look so haunted.

"What can I do for you both?"

"Nice to meet you, John." Katherine smiled at Jack's friend and looked at the picture again at Jack's words.

"No. Not really. I think I'm going mad actually." Quiet, she held up the photo so it was facing Jack and John. "This is a photo from my life, of my last employer from an....earlier time. How did it get here?"

John grins back.

And then he shrugs. "Not sure...I got here trying to get somewhere else," he pulls up hs sleeve to show Katherine his wrist strap. "What were you doing before you showed up here?"

(OOC Here's a photo of my employer and I. Tried to find a screencap because there is actually a photo of him from the "earlier time" dressed in Victorian clothes, but the screencaps only went for the first half of the first ep.

Katherine gave John a look of confusion. "Got here trying to get somewhere else? How did that happen?" The wrist strap didn't look like anything special, though it must mean something to John. The stopwatch on the other hand...

"That is beautiful." The stopwatch looked like something from the future, with the looks. "But, how could that be worse?" She was confused now.

(OOC: I have not seen Torchwood, but have a background knowledge of it, not much, but Ianto's stopwatch, poor Jack.)

"It's a Vortex Manipulator!" John explains, giving his wrist strap a proud look. "Can take you anywhere in time and space...well within an acceptable margin...most of the time." He shrugs. "But yeah I was thinking of visiting the 18th century, but I ended up here instead. What were you doing?"

He gives the stop watch a sour look...bad memories with that thing...

She watched as Jack avoided the question concerning the stopwatch, watched as he put it away, didn't comment as to the expression on his face.

"Teleport feature? You mean those aren't just normal wrist straps?"

Katherine looked to the picture of Dr Henry Jekyll that Jack had set on the table next to the TV. How in the world had it ended up here? "I'd called Dr. Jackman, my employer. I was going through a box of things from the flat we'd worked in and found a CD his..brother had left there. He didn't answer, so I left a voicemail." She could feel her eyes tearing up again.

"Mine lasts longer..." John shot back almost automatically and grins. "And it has!"

He turns to Katherine. "Normal wrist straps! Certainly not, love! They're from the 51st century, fabulous they are to."

He shifts a little uncomfortably at her tears. "Well, hey it's not so bad, you can pop out of this place whenever you like! At least...I've managed to..."

Katherine wiped away tears that kept coming then gave up, leaning into Jack.

"If everyone's to be believed, nothing much good will happen in the future." She sighed "Looks like I'm stuck here. Just hope I don't find anything else."

(Is there anywhere you guys want this to go? I feel like we're coming to a stop. Has Jack and John found all of their five items? If they have they'll know there's five, so I might have to find mine.)

(OOC: Maybe they're all caught up with life. I have to post my job post still, should do that soon.)
