[OTA] When in doubt... drink.

Sep 29, 2009 09:02

Nathan had only kind of settled into a room, although he was intent on finding something a bit larger to live in. He was used to space. And yes, he was spoiled. But he never tried to pretend that he wasn't. As it was, he had run out of his own stash of whiskey ( Read more... )

Rogue and taken yet another order of drinks for the rowdy table at the back, wondering why guys that appeared to be straight from a college frat were even bothering with a cocktail bar. She also made a mental note to cut them off after the next round, and whack them in the head with her tray if they tried to argue.

She slipped the order to the barman, and leaned against the bar as she waited. She glanced at the guy to her side, and the whiskey he had in front of him. "Sure you don't want a little paper umbrella for that?"

"Little paper umbrellas only go in fruity cocktail drinks." Nathan answered, not looking away from his whiskey. "A tall glass of dry whiskey? No, that'd be an insult."

"You're right, but you just look like you could use a bit of fun." Rogue wasn't quite looking at the gentleman, her head turned to watch the table of yahoos as they started to get up on the table and do a Coyote Ugly. What she wouldn't give for Remy's power right then. "My break really ain't gonna come too soon."

'My break really ain't gonna come too soon.'

Nathan lifted his head, his brow furrowed. That was familiar. A voice he hadn't heard in some time, not since a few weeks before the shooting. He looked sideways finding Rogue there, one of his closest friends. Momentarilly he was excited. But then that excitement diminished. People here were from all different walks of life, different times. But in his time she had been one of his closest friends.

Nathan cleared his throat. "Rogue? Do you know me?"

Rogue's head whipped around, her brown eyes going wide as she saw Nathan Petrelli. She'd been stuck here over three years now, and she hadn't been able to forget her friend. The shock faded in place of joy, and she moved in to hug him without another thought. "Of course I know you, sugar. It's been way too long. I've missed you somethin' fierce."

The hug made him smile and after a moment of internally rejoicing in the fact that she knew who he was, Nathan returned the hug. "I've missed you too, much more than I can say. Are you alright? Are you doing well here?"

"I gotta say I ain't got much to complain about right now. If you'd have been here a month ago it might have been a different story." Rogue's smile wouldn't fade, but she did feel her stomach clench a bit when she thought of Remy, and how close she'd been to really losing him. "When did you get here?"

"A few days ago. I am so glad to see you. My brother's here too. Have you run into him?" Nathan asked curiously.

Rogue gave a shake of her head. "No, I haven't. I would've given him the tour otherwise. He--" Something dropped in Rogue's mind, a memory of a brunette in Chase's bed, and a couple of their conversations since. "Oh. Well, hey, at least Peter has good taste. Rob's a great guy," she murmured, realising she'd spoken halfway through her thought. She looked at Nathan, and smiled. "Petrelli men are hard to resist."

Nathan smirked and looked down to his glass with a shake of his head. Honestly, he felt pretty resistible at the moment. "You know this guy he's with?"

"Sure. Rob's been here for over a year. Not quite the island veteran that I am, but close," Rogue told Nathan with a soft smile. "He was the closest I had to a best friend. Also pretty hot, so... there was a little flirtin'. Nothin' ever happened even though me and Remy had this open thing. Rob was the one guy Remy wouldn't let me have. Then I kinda maybe did have him when I thought Remy had gone back home." Rogue's smile was long gone, and she sighed heavily. "Fucked things right up. Rob was never who I wanted, though. It was always Remy. Now Rob's happy with your brother, and I'm married. Which is a whole other thing in itself. Just trust me, Rob's a really good guy. He'd do anythin' for Peter."
