[CLOSED TO PETER] Crisis averted

Jul 12, 2009 17:55

It was over. All of their epidemic patients had been discharged - including Peter - and Rob had just been checked out too, albeit grudgingly on Chase's part. He ultimately would have preferred to keep Rob in for another few days yet, but the soldier turned into such a cranky bastard in the last couple of days that Chase knew keeping him in would ( Read more... )

Peter opened the door wearing just a pair of sweatpants and gave Chase a lopsided smile. "I don't remember ordering a strip-o-gram, but hey... who am I to turn you down? I don't see a stereo though, so I hope you don't expect me to sing. You could always come inside, and I'll happily supply a different kind of soundtrack."

Chase pretended to look offended and let out a mock gasp. "C'mon! My outfit can't be that bad," he joked. "I can come inside, can I?" he added with a mischievous smirk. "Fortunate. I never was a fan of the rhythm method."

Peter scratched at his shoulder and gave Chase a wink as he stepped aside to let the doctor in. "You can come inside anytime you like. I'm certainly not about to stop you. So long as I get to show you just how grateful I am for your services with an oral tribute. I can't sing, but I've got a very talented tongue."

"Don't I know it," Chase laughed as he followed Peter in. Once the door was closed, he tucked his hands around Peter's waist and gave him a kiss. "So, you're feeling better than. And I came all prepared to give you a physical too."

Peter licked his lips after the kiss, his lopsided smile returning. He was glad Chase had come to visit. Especially now that he wasn't chained to a hospital bed, or feeling like death warmed up. "I'm feeling great, but not in any mood to get dressed completely. Just been lounging around, and catching up on a few movies. You can still give me the physical, I won't stop you," Peter said with a chuckle. He tugged on a lock of Chase's damp hair before he let his hands rest on the other man's hips. "So... you allowed some bed rest of your own yet?"

"I just wanted to check. A couple of our other patients are going to have a bit of a rough recovery, which isn't unusual with the illness. I needed to make sure you're okay," Chase told him with a smile. "Part of my inner doctor wants to protest that you should be resting. This is me officially on a week's leave. I had to blackmail the boss. The bastard is a real piece of work."

"Need me to speak to him? Maybe get a bit rough and forceful?" Peter asked, his smile forming a smirk. He started to move them backwards towards his bedroom, his eyebrow creeping up as he looked at Chase in amusement. "Part of my inner nurse wants to protest that you should be resting, too. I think we can manage to rest together for a bit, don't you?"

Chase tapped Peter's chest with a smirk. "Your inner nurse should be resting. I don't want my recovery patients dropping like flies because they can't follow my orders. I swear Rob nearly wanted shove my steth up my arse this afternoon when I tried to keep him in longer. That was a self-preserving discharge that," he laughed. "There is no way I'm going to say no to a rest. Have you been eating and drinking?"

Peter waved a hand at his bedside table to indicate the empty glasses, and plates. His appetite was still a little light, so he just ate what he could, trying to keep it healthy and not just junk food. "Of course. Have you?" he returned as he gave Chase a look. "I can sympathise with him, but hey, he's going home to Fox. I don't think she'll let him disobey orders too much if it means him relapsing."

"I can't believe they're moving in together. Gives the rest of us some hope," Chase said with a smile, looking over the remnants of food and drink. "I had a coffee and some fries at lunch time," he said with a shrug.

"Here I was thinking making deals about palm trees, then breaking them was meant to give us hope..." Peter said with a teasing tone. "She barely left his side. Maybe she's not the most obvious domestic choice, but she does care about him. Probably even loves him. Can't really blame her for making that step." Peter shook his head in mock disappointment. "You really need to get some protein into you." The remark had been intended innocently enough, but as Peter looked down between his and Chase's bodies, he couldn't help but snicker as his mind saw the amusing side of his comment.

Chase shrugged. "Hey, domestic is overrated. Plus, when you're faced with losing someone, you always realise ten-fold just how much you don't want to lose them. You'll do anything to keep them with you and make sure they're okay. It breeds emotions inside that you either didn't know you had or didn't want to know you had. You don't know how many dark confessions I have heard patients' loved ones admit to when they thought they were going to lose them."

He looked at Peter and then laughed. "That was about as subtle as a seagull shitting in your eye," he teased. "Are you trying to get me into bed, Nurse Petrelli?"

Peter nodded. "Actually, I can. Hospice nurse, remember? I get to hear both sides usually. Patients are just as willing to part with their dark confessions when they're close to dying."

He held his hand up and laughed, giving a vehement shake of his head. "I genuinely wasn't. The words were out of my mouth before I'd picked up on the implied meaning. I did just mean you should have had something with more protein than fries. Still, now that you're here and we're near a bed..."

Chase nodded and hummed in agreement. "I don't know how many times I've heard patients admit to affairs when they think they're dying. God knows what I would admit to if I was facing death. Then I see Rob, and he's staring death in the face, and what's he thinking? That he doesn't want Fox to deal with the pain of losing him. Me? I'd probably admit to losing my virginity at fourteen to a woman nearly three times my age."

"Oh, that's what they all say," he laughed. "What would you say if I told you I think you need to rest in bed? You're really pushing your luck, Petrelli," he teased.

"Well, you're not on your death bed right now, and here you are admitting it. Should I feel flattered?" Peter asked with a slight smirk. He moved onto the bed, stretching out as he patted the other side for Chase to join him.

"You do remember what I said at the beginning of all this, don't you? I'm all for rest. I'm just feeling better enough for flirting and innuendo. It's not completely beyond me anymore. Besides, I heard about Rob's little show with Fox. He's got a point about checking if equipment's in working order."

"Hmm, I dunno. It's not something I'm proud of. That's only about a third of the tale, too, so not a complete confession." Chase sat on the side of the bed and took his shoes off before he moved to lie beside Peter.

He snorted. "Debauching my hospital beds. I dunno. What's the world coming to?" he said with a smirk. "I was completely impressed at his train of thought. Fuck confessions. I want sex before I die," he decided with a succinct nod.
