Mage of the Caribbean

(reposted because I f-ed up the first time)

So, finished the first scenario of the Mage: Ascension with hacked rules inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean.

I thought it went semi good. At least I had fun :) I thought the rules mostly worked (although I played a bit fast & loose with some of the things I had set for spell difficulties in order to smooth play), and there are a couple of areas where things are a bit hazy. Still not sure what the best way to deal with Quintessence is. In both Awakening and Ascension it's either too easily or too hardly available depending on whether the PCs have put points in Prime and Node (which in this case they haven't. At all.) which makes its economy very different from things like Glamour in Changeling & the like. (Then again, I guess it's also very much less necessary to do magic. That's reminds me, I also forgot to require Quintessence expenditure for counter magic). Pacing seemed to work after the uneasy beginning although we took three sessions instead of two and and I think I had an easier time improvising stuff that the last times I GMed.

Not the most on point scenario but given that I had to come up with something in a rush in order to play while one of the player was still available, I don't think that was too bad. I'd say at least we got the group together, but well...
- One of the player can't play anymore due to lack of time.
- Another player will only be available in my city from times to times, usually during vacations.
- The two remaining players don't think they can easily work with one another (one being OoR and the other of the Tradition - for which they have no excuses given they were also the two characters together when we did a collection character creation session. Or it's my fault for being too open handed about what the players could make as characters.)

So yeaaah. I'll probably have to recruit one or two other players. Which shouldn't be difficult in itself, except I don't want it to be any random person I'm not sure I'd enjoy playing with. Perhaps I should take a page from online freestyle roleplay and ask for rping applications with sample roleplay & stuff lol.

Had I known we'd end with a more semi-regular group, I'd have pushed for a chronicle set up based on a city or something that could work more easily with people going & leaving; but now it's a bit late *sighs*
