John dies and it sucks and he knows he's a ghost but he's trapped like Annie from Being Human. Like Annie, no one can see or hear him, until SOMEONE SPECIAL SHOWS UP. He can move things though, but then that means his invisibility field has to go around them and stuff
( ... )
That's really interesting - yes, I can see that it might be tempting to go darker, and I can certainly appreciate dark at times, but I'm glad you didn't because this fic is pretty damn perfect as it is.
I don't recall the 'starting to fade' element being mentioned specifically, so that adds an extra depth which I like very much - thanks for that.
The concept of world building intrigues me, I've always enjoyed reading/watching things with a supernatural element, although thus far I haven't ventured to write anything along those lines myself. Perhaps one day...
Yeaaaah -- I mean, it didn't occur to me until I got to that point (I write linearly, lol, so I think I was like halfway through at the time): "well if John can possess Sherlock and ride his body and/or other people's bodies all day erry day and then there's no real impact for him being a ghost", so then I had to take away his ability to possess Sherlock which means I had to give it consequences, and then once I gave it consequences they had to be a) bad, and b) bad enough that Sherlock won't do it again and/or John won't permit it to happen again, and then it was like, "SURPRISE CHANCE FOR REALLY DARK SHIT HAPPENING".
also you should write something supernatural then, it's fun i promise
Oh, I should probably admit that I bought both the Jane Lindskold book, and 'Good Omens', purely because of your stories. Haven't had chance to read them yet, but they're on the top of my pile - I should have more time after this weekend. Hope they're as good as the works which insired their purchases :)
True story: I had a copy of Good Omens and I lent it to a friend in highschool, but then she left it in her purse and it got hella beat up, so she bought me a new copy and kept that one since she liked it so much.
Good Omens is great, you should def read it (irisbleufic wrote for Good Omens fandom, btw, and her stuff is great so yeah). I don't remember much about the Jane Lindskold one, but I really need to get my hands on a copy of it (got it from the library during my "read ALL the books" phase). A lot of it is literature references, which I'm super bad at, but yeah, I remember thinking it was pretty neat (but then I was like 12 at the time, so YMMV).
God, I am paranoid about loaning my books out now ever since someone lost my copy of an Octavia Butler fic which is out of print and it took me years to find a replacement. Bastard. I've got a secret stash now of 'books I will never ever be parted from so don't even bother asking', which is hidden safely away :D
Will let you know whether Companion to Owls holds up in adulthood!
See, I was going to ask you something clever and insightful, but then I got distracted and re-read 'You Need Someone'. Now all I want to know is how you managed to write such a smoking hot Lestrade without your fingers catching fire.
Why have I not read all of these?! I have for some of them but not all of them and these sound fantabulous (except the incest one because that's not my cuppa but WTH I'll probably end up reading it anyway...).
These worlds and concepts are what I breath.
The HDM was one of my favorites but that is slightly biased as I love practically anything merged with HDM. The way in which they are interpreted and used fascinate me.
Oh, that's why I haven't read all of these... I was tracking your journal but I never got the messages that anything was posted :[ this is the first post that I have received in my inbox.
