I am genuinely scared of the anti-health care people. This is not a conversation. It is not productive, it is not rational. They are behaving like internet trolls. When a troll is not controlled, things continue to spiral out of control until physical threats are made.
If this real-life trollery is not controlled, I fear it will turn violent in a short amount of time. These town-hall meetings need to have basic decency requirements, kicking out those who decide to scream and shout in an effort to disrupt. It is a lesson the internet has slowly learned; the Democrats cannot afford to learn the same lesson so slowly. The longer this goes on unchecked, the higher emotions on both sides will become.
Listening to the empty talking-points of these people (not personally; they are luckily not terribly common in Tucson), filled with misinformation and hatred, I worry.
Stay safe out there, all, when talking about this to people with opposing views. I am very concerned by the things I am seeing.
Remember, it's better if you show them where they are misinformed by the media than to just blanket-statement "no, you're wrong." Try to stay neutral and not directly opposing while still correcting misbeliefs. This is the only way people will even begin to listen to what you have to say, rather than cause simple violent retorts.
