C25K - Week 3, Day 1

Hola Amigos, been a couple days since I rapped at ya.

I did week 3 day 1 today, no sweat. By which I mean a lot of sweat. Five minutes walking, then 90 seconds running, 90 seconds walking 3 minutes running, 3 minutes walking, 90 seconds running, 90 seconds walking, 3 minutes running, 3 minutes walking, and then a 5 minute cooldown. I did it ok.

This podcast actually fudges the numbers, and I just figured out why. A lot of these early days end with a walking period. But do I really need to finish by walking for 8 minutes total? That's not the best way to build endurance. So they sneak some of that time into the earlier walks, so I'm better rested for the runs, and I'm not getting bored during the final cooldown. I think the full time adds up to be the same.

Oddly enough, this week's training includes exactly the same amount of running as last week's. But it still feels like I'm building on what I've done, because now I'm doing the running in larger chunks. I don't know when the last time I ran 3 minutes without stopping was-- probably a couple years. I'm sure two weeks ago I couldn't have done it.

I'm not on a specific deadline, but it's kind of a nice bonus that I'll be in better shape (halfway through the 9 weeks) for the Game of Thrones party next weekend, compared with last year. A lot of people who won't have seen me in a long while; I wonder if they will say anything. Probably not, I haven't made that much of a change.

Playlist
The NHS Week 3 podcast. There was one song I really liked on there, and I should try to find it. The voiceover also mentioned that I should be running in such a way that my head doesn't bob up and down a lot, but I'm finding that difficult.

That's all. I'm off to work-- this is the first time I'm doing these exercises and then heading off to my job; we'll see how that goes. It's been a bit of a slow time in my life (between work & shows & social stuff) over the past few weeks, which is partly why I had the motivation to get into running this way.

Work has also not been the greatest lately, but I won't get into that right now. I am currently looking at a variety of possible futures.
