R.I.P. Sean Taylor 1983-2007

Nov 27, 2007 08:08

For those that don't know, I'm a huge sports fan. Most of my online friends aren't so that name won't really ring a bell for everyone that reads this. For me though, the name doesn't have nearly as much impact as those numbers, 1983-2007. It's hard to imagine everything ending at 24 when your whole life is still ahead of you.

Taylor was a football player with the Washington Redskins. He played safety and was one of the primary defensive players on the team. At about 2:00am Monday morning he was shot in his home during what appears to have been a robbery. He was hospitalized in critical condition and died early this morning. Included in the family he left behind was his 1 year old daughter.

He wasn't exactly a model citizen but in a way, that's where the true tragedy lies in the story. During college, Taylor was involved in a number of incidences, most of which were simply a result of running with the wrong crowd. Over the last two years though he had taken great strides to get past his history and clean himself up. He was even selected as a member of the 'leadership corps' of the Redskins, showing just how much had changed since he was drafted. Sadly it seems violence caught back up to him after all.
