just throw up his hands and scream “Do you know what I do for you people? Do you know what I’ve gone through to keep you safe and ignorant of all the horrors in the world? Oh my god!” *emos*
Oh, man. How I want to read that story.
Now, you say the road to hell, but that’s a cynical view, and not at all one that Clark could ever understand. He is pure of heart; you are Lex.
Yay! Thank you for writing this. It's pretty much *exactly* what I think but I would never have been able to write it. I'm going to link to it in my journal, btw.
This all seems pretty self-evident to me, but then again I suppose not everyone's read Superman comics (which I still find bizarre--I mean, here the SV fangirls have all this other material, decades and decades of material, AND LEX STOLE CLARK'S DNA SO THEY COULD HAVE A BABY TOGETHER, and yet, they don't bother), and I know a lot of Clark-haters don't want to bother with finding a real foundation for their hate outside of "he's an asshat", which he really is, but, damn, man, he's frickin' Superman over here!
I haven't read the comics, but I don't hate Clark so I'm okay. Besides, I don't need to have read the comics to agree with everything you said (and to understand it). Some people are just morons who should die.
Here’s my boiled down rejoinder to the emotional growth issue:
I do not think Clark is the same kid as in S1. Not at all. However, I do not think the Clark we have now is far from the Clark who moons over Lois, hates on Lex (to the point of obsession), and draws very stark lines in the sand. The Clark we’re seeing now is not far off the Clark who is Superman. The only thing I think he’s lacking is his abiding hatred of Lex.
Clark doesn’t really ever come to a place where he is willing to deal with subtly and complexity of emotion. Either he love you, or he doesn’t. Either you’re good, or you’re not. He is willing to go to the ends of the universe (literally) if he thinks you deserve it. If he thinks you don’t, then you’re screwed.
The value-judgments are separate from the analysis of why Clark’s the way he is. I think there’s a lot to love in Clark. I think the trap a lot of anti-Clark people fall into is that they are themselves making the either/or decision, just like Clark. Either Lex is a woobie and Clark is a big meany OR
( ... )
I think Bo Kent is supposed to be representative of a good, salt of the earth guy who makes mistakes because he's judgmental. Now, do I view him that way? Hell no, because I'm sane.
I think Clark loves everyone in his life. That's his biggest problem.

But if you're ever bored, there is some great stuff, my favorite ones were when Lex was running for President.
