Arusha closed the adjoining door gently behind her. Rob was passed out on the bed in the other room, with Kly and Mulder talking quietly on the balcony. The Durants were as comfortable as possible in the psych unit, and
Arc had sensor-lock on the hospital for security.
In an open area of the floor, Rak tossed down a couple of pillows and dropped onto one, Indian-style. Rusha latched the door and sank down on the other. She looked across and let out a heavy sigh. Rak returned a wry smile. After a long, long, chaotic day, at last it was only them. At last they were able to work without guiding, shielding or stepping around other people. At last there was room to breathe.
Rusha straightened her shoulders. Her hands rested on her knees, palms up. Rak mirrored her. Their eyes closed, and silence fell. Moments passed, and slowly their breathing fell in time - gentle, even, perfectly matched. Arusha lifted her left hand, palm out. "Catalyst."
Her eyes were closed, but Rak's right hand made contact, palm to palm, without hesitation. "Adept." They took one more deep breath, and left.
The physical world faded away - the room, the hotel, the city around it, replaced with a maze of lights and lines, infinite patterns of life and energy, twisting and intertwining. They drifted into the stream and as one turned toward the hospital. There were the Durants, marked with the mixed energies of human and demon, typical of a vampire. And leading from them ... ah. There it was.
When Robert Durant had spoken of being drawn to a particular spot, to Rusha's ears he had spoken of magick, a current of influence attached to him, reeling him toward its source. He roused a little now, vaguely aware as they brushed by him and continued on, following the faint trail that was summoning him to Jack Davis - to his Master.
Hunting now, coursing like hounds on a scent. North ... north ... northwest ... the track was clear and unhidden. No artistry there, simply the bond between the vampire and those before - wait. What was that?
Arusha opened her eyes. She took a few second to settle back into her physical body, then lowered her hand from where it still rested against Rak's. "We have a problem."
Rak nodded, flexing her fingers as if trying to work some stiffness out of her hand. "We need to get to Atlin."
