This entry was triggered by those snapshots friend_horatio posted in skameiki:

What made those snapshots so agreeable for my eye is that I DO tend to believe that proper park benches should come with pigeons and squirrels to feed as service for (usually older) people who have the need to feed somebody, but no-one other to feed ...

This reminds me something I overheard in a bus. An older woman with a small dog entered and, when someone commented about the dog, a conversation ensued. A sentence I have not been able to forget was said. It was not the words, but the way it sounded brimming with ambivalence: "Eats like a baby bird!" told the woman and, from one side, it was bragging, as not needing lots of food meant that a money-strapped retired person could easily keep up with the needs of the dog; but from other side the sentence seemed to be brimming with regret - the woman would have liked to get the pleasure of feeding someone more often and in form of bigger bowls full of food, but unfortunately the dog was too small to provide as much of the appetite as was needed for full satisfaction ...

From my side there comes an image of squirrel warning: "Six kilometers of squirrels ahead!"

When communication lines get moved underground the human residents of Tallinn welcome the change, as not having electricity or working phones during stormy weather is no fun. For the squirrels, though, losing the safe passage ways over the busy roads means deadly peril.
