It's a kind of baseball bat. I think it was more of a household term in the states back in the glory days of U.S. baseball, especially like in the 1940's and whatever. I know baseball's not nearly as popular here as it used to be, but it's still something that most people have heard of. I guess not as many people in my generation have heard of it, though, or people overseas. But it's a really interesting museum and they show you how they make the bats, too.
Yeah, actually they are... they take blocks of wood and then put them on a lathe and the lathe shapes them to the way they're supposed ot be and then they get the Louisville Slugger thing branded on them and sometimes they paint them or coat them with something. I think each one is handmade. Well, with the lathe.
What's a "slugger"? Is it someone who collects slugs?
