Catholicism - WOW!

I've never understood the reasoning behind the Catholic cannon law requiring priests and nuns to take a vow of celibacy upon entering into Holy Orders. What could God possibly have against priests and nuns marrying into and spreading their holy genes throughout the common populace?

From the time that I was very small, I felt that the Pope had it all wrong on this one. I believed that, logically, allowing persons of the cloth to have and to raise families would be to the ultimate benefit of both God and the Catholic faith. With priest and nun bringing young priest after young nun into the world behind them, the alternative of a free parochial education and the continuance of the Catholic species would be ensured for all time to come. And, it would be even better if priests and nuns were allowed to mate only with each other - breeding a whole army of super-religious hybrid offspring, each one working their rosary in one hand while brandishing an unwieldy ruler in the other, waiting to mow down anyone who should present themselves as an obstacle on the path to salvation and righteousness.

On a related note, I wonder if priests and nuns are allowed to date? I mean, obviously they'd never be able to do anything remotely sexual, but as long as they were dating each other, I don't think either one would hold that against the other. It must be pretty lonely otherwise, so I think they'd enjoy the company. I'd totally go out with a hot priest, if I liked him. And... if I were a nun.

I wonder if we'd be allowed to make out?
