Well, that was fun. Eight hours of a Shakespeare workshop over the weekend, during the whole of which I got to play at being an eleventh century Scottish queen. Or rather, the bits just before she got to be a queen, but let's not be fussy.
We were assigned scenes at the start of the week, and had to prepare them in "plain english" before the workshop. From that basis, we worked on communicating the meaning of what was being said to the audience (other workshoppers). In a weird way, it reminded me of trying to read in Finnish - understanding the individual words and even phrases doesn't necessarily lead to actually understanding what is being expressed.
We're clamouring for more time to keep on working on our scenes, although that would point towards performance, and the aim of a performance of seven separate scenes from seven separate Shakespeare plays is a little hard to grasp.
In other Finn-Brit Players news, I've volunteered to organise some kind of event over the summer, when traditionally we don't do anything, and that might take the form of an afternoon Whose Line Is It Anyway party. The only annoyance is that I wouldn't be able to take part.
