so that's how I can be productive

Dec 11, 2007 00:44

I'm back! Not that I write enough in my lj for anyone to notice an absence, but my laptop's power cord keeled over last week, and I ended up with a computer-free weekend. It's amazing how productive one can be when one is home alone all weekend and has no internet to waste time on. I vacuumed, cleaned my bathroom, wrapped all my Christmas gifts ( Read more... )

Well, hello there!

Canadian/British news? Wow!

I admire the ability to leave the computer behind. I'd like to do that too, but every time I try, something comes up that makes it impossible! (Like the writing contracts I have right now. BOO!) And I have absolutely no self-control to simply use the computer to write and not check out the internet...

You didn't ask... but I'm tellin'... my favourite Christmas song is the Little Drummer Boy with Bing Crosby and David Bowie. Love that one!

Bye!!! :-)

just realized when I posted this comment I didn't "reply to" you so I'm not sure you ever saw it! *reposts*

Yeah I gotta say though, the ladies on "As it Happens" are kind of irking me lately, they seemed to get extra snarky and contradictory all of a sudden. Ever hear that show?

and yeah, ...hi, I'm Jen, and I'm addicted to the internet.
I thought about trying to limit myself to one "session" a night (as opposed to having my computer on in the background all evening--checking it if I get an e-mail or feel like looking something up, etc.)... but realized that's not about to happen. I'm just gonna try to cut back a bit. Quitting all those survey panels cuts out a bunch of time right there. (If they sent me cookies I would have stuck with it, haha.)

Is that song you're talking about the one where one guy sings the normal/traditional Little Drummer Boy sort of in the background, while the other guy sings over it in a counter-melody?

That is indeed the song I mean... and I just realized that I didn't hear it at all this year! I suppose that's what I get for listening to the local punk/alternative station that played 48 hrs of Christmas Punk... of which I was pleasantly surprised! I'm amazed at who has done Christmas music and how much their is out there!

Not that I desire your failure... but I'm glad someone else is as horrible with the computer and net as I am!! LOL! I've been a tad better... but not much...
Those surveys sound crazy! I wonder what the US version of Pinecone is... that's the one that sends me the food and pays 5$ per survey... I get 2 or 3 surveys a month and they take about 5 min max to complete.

Nope... dunno the show you mention.

*waves back and shouts across the distance* "happy new year!"

All that stuff up there. abluecat December 16 2007, 04:49:22 UTC
~Hehe. Counted cross-stitch! I did that as a kid. Rachel just started needle point w/ Joel's mom, who is ultra-crafty! :-)
~Long-distance relationships DO work, just look at us! I know, not the same.
~Ryan Adams can be happy music? j/k He makes me happy sometimes, but it's always a little disturbing too.
~The Chipmunks! Haha I had a record, yes, a vinyl record, w/ the Christmas songs AND one w/ various early 80's pop, including Betty Davis Eyes.
~Oh god, I hate that stupid "Mama's Shoes" song, or whatever it's called. Yick! I went to the neighbor's xmas play a few years ago and they performed that story, complete w/ the song. I thought I'd barf. The saccharin stickiness was everywhere! I hate having sentimentality shoved down my throat. Ergo, I hate country pop music.
~Yes, you are loved. :) <3 <3 <3

-Ryan Adams can be happy music sometimes, moreso if you don't always pay attention to the lyrics. ;)
-I had that Chipmunks tape too... had Michael Jackson's "Beat it" on it, right? It was like some order-from-TV 50th anniversary thing? I used to love that tape, played it all the time. I guess their little whiny voices are less grating to a kid's ears. ;)
-I don't mind that "Mama's Shoes" song so much, if I make a point to only half-hear it. Like, the guy's voice is all right, and the orchestration/choir isn't as saccharine as it could be... but I gotta admit anytime there are like, 4 year olds singing about Jesus, I get a little irked. There is one song that has a lyric that is like (paraphrased), "I like getting presents, ...but today is really all about you, Jesus!" And I'm like, come on... what four year old actually thinks like that. Yeah, none. ;)
