If you've never been to or heard of thon this might explain a little of it:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1244275061320889141 IT WAS AMAZING! 46 hours of all standing, no sleeping madness! It started out great with some playing around and everything. Then my partner crashed and just cried for about 4 hours. The moralers had to leave like an hour into it and I spent the rest of that trying to cheer her up and everything. It was so strange... you would ask her a question and she would just cry and stare at you. She doesn't remember it though lol. At the same time, one of the WIB girls (who kept sitting down! which you aren't allowed to do) texted me to come and help her because she was sitting in her locker room and couldn't get up. Hours later while we were coloring on this pile of stuff, she laid down on it and went to sleep! When the moralers yelled at her, she would cry and bitch until they let her sit a little while longer... GRRR!
My moraler was less than stellar. He didn't really seem all that interested in the whole thing, although he did squeeze himself into a children's Robin (batman and robin) costume for one of the Theme Hours. I don't even have a picture with him. My partner's moraler kind of took over for him and brought stuff for both of us. She was totally amazing. We even got a strawberry shortcake coloring book.
Meagan took his place and came to play often. She is my hero. She helped me do handstands and, depsite the fact that I thought I had lost her an hour from the end and sobbed ridiculously, she was there for the end to help me and my partner. I also cried on Jade (from clothing at work) after taking care of my partner and the WIB girl (missing meals and ignoring my own needs for theirs... grr)
I had to get both of my ankles wrapped by the medics this year because each one gave out. But by the end I just ignored it. My overall pain was less than last year, but more specific shooting pains in the ankles. Oddly enough my sorest muscle is my abs. I'm not sure why either, but they hurt like hell when I sit up. Also, I had a swollen gland when it all started. With all the yelling I definately completely lost my voice. I still can't even speak a single word without squeaking/whispering.
My favorite part: once again the kids. This year I got along so well with my thon kids from last year. Lakeisha and I played with bouncy balls and I danced and swung Lelani around. Then my partner and I played hide and seek with them. It was the most ridiculously cute thing I have ever seen in my life. I wish I could do this every weekend for the rest of my life just to see the smiles on their faces. They are absolutely my life. I will be sending them letters from now on.
Afterwards, Nick picked me up and took me out to dinner. He carried me from the restaurant to the car and dropped me off at my place while he parked his car. Then we started watching Zorro and cuddled, but I fell asleep obviously. Apparently I twitched a lot and it creeped him out. But he had to leave around 8 to get home. He woke me up and said goodbye, then I changed and got back in bed when there was a knock on the door. It was Nick to give me a heart box of dark chocolate turtles that he had left in his car by accident. It felt like some sort of movie moment lol.
So although THON was more depressing this year (spending time leading my dance partner around by the hand and attempting to get the blank stare off of her face), it still was the best experience of my life. THON will always be my life. The last hour was the best thing. I played hide and seek with Lakeisha and Lelani then did some hardcore dancing with my partner and meagan... I finally got my partner to dance and she was smiling. And then the total! 5.2 million dollars for the kids! A full million over what we raised last year! It's so amazing.
And now I'll stop writing because this could seriously go for hours on end.
