I felt quite helpless too, when I could not find the floppy to start Windows. I must keep a copy at hand from now on... I don't trust my old computer overly much these days... ;)
Thank'ee! I'm quite proud of myself now, though I think I gave folks who know a bit more about computers than I do a good chuckle by reading my post. ;)
I could not find my start-up floppy for Windows (I'm perfectly organised fro cases like that, you know), and was nigh on giving in. I thought I could call a friend tomorrow about it. But well, I was restless, and tried several MS-DOS commands and combinations. Finally I got that far that I had access to the CD-ROM again. After that I was tired enough and could not configure my internet settings properly. After two hours I finally found out that it was too easy to imagine, and I always had overlooked one simple, tiny, WEE thing. *looks cross-eyed and coughs miserably*
Wow! I'm impressed! I would have just shouted for my best friend. He's a computer programmer and he lives next door. Yes, I know, I'm pathetic, when it concerns computers. :o

Wow! That's great. :D I would have done the same in that case. I have a friend who is very skilled as well, but he lives more than two hours away from here. :p But it seems I've picked up one or two things when he helped me a while ago with my computer. :D
I always had overlooked one simple, tiny, WEE thing Hehe. You know, this is always the case, with everyone. No matter what difficult or easy computer task you are doing, too often the simplest things cost most of the time.
Here's a diagnosis tool to test your hardware, maybe your RAM is defect and you could reach a stable state again by simply changing a RAM chip. They should be quite cheap for your old computer. Windows Memory Diagnostic

I think being desperate and helpless helped me to discover some unknown computer skills. Or was it just by chance? ;)
