I survived my work marathon, and even have tomorrow off! Yay! I can sleep in, and watch my Preciousss all day, should I choose so. And I think I will. :)
I haven't seen much of the EE DVD yet; yesterday I watched disc one, and the new scenes on disc two. And I saw the easter eggs. *broad smile* The one on the first disc was so hilarious that I disturbed my neighbour with my laughing fits. Ahem. :D
My first impressions on the EE (in no particular order, I'm so tired) :
Like the two other EE versions, the movie seems more "complete" now, though I missed many scenes I had hoped for (extended Grey Havens for example, though I knew they had to cut that out once more).
- I didn't like the Drinking Game, not at all. :p It's just stupid, and I don't understand why Gimli got portrayed like that. Lots of burbs, no fun. Sorry PJ. ;)
- There are wonderful additions on Merry and Pippin, and some brilliant takes that describe the relation between Faramir and Denethor, and give it a deeper meaning that was not to be seen in the theatrical version.
- There are some more insights that make Frodo's decision to send Sam home a bit more understandable (if that is possible :p). Sam gives Gollum an explicit warning, and threatens with consequences, should Gollum try to harm Frodo.
- Movie!Frodo was portrayed weaker in the first two movies, and this EE goes on giving that impression, and turning Sam into the "real" hero (that's at least my impression).
- Very beautiful scenes at the Houses of Healing, and between Éowyn and Faramir. The wedding is not to be seen, though.
- A wonderful new scene with Éowyn and Aragorn, with Éowyn telling Aragorn about her dream. One of the finest new additions, IMHO. :)
- Frodo and Sam in Mordor: more scenes that show more of Frodo's agony, and the hopelessness and loneliness of the two hobbits in general. The march with the orcs is quite intense, though a bit too short again. ;)
- One shot of Frodo's neck wound made me gasp. Very sad and hurting. And one scene literally broke my heart. Watch out for "It's such a weight to carry." I won't say more now, except: "Oh my!"
- I love Théoden even more than before. Bernhard Hill is great. <3 I have a plotbunny for a story with Théoden, and will try to work on it when I get some more free time.
- The Mouth of Sauron needs a dentist. :p I was moved by the emotions Merry and Pippin uttered when they saw the Mithril shirt, and the emotions on the faces of Aragorn and Gandalf were heartbreaking.
- The Paths of the Dead are much more impressive now. :)
- I heard some more lines straight from the books! Life is good.
Well, I think I forgot half of the things I wanted to say. Will add that in a later post. :)
Oh, and don't miss the easter eggs! Hehehe!!!
So now I'll watch the second part of the movie as a whole, and perhaps some documentaries. What a torture to have to work so much this weekend, eh? ;)
Ah, but lots of things to discover still.
