this is my downfall

A blog. My downfall.

So how did I get into this business? I guess it was the want for something more from my mundane life. Daily regimens get old way too fast. So did I just wake up one day and say, I think I'll become a professional theif ? No, not really. It took me quite a while to arrive at my current state of mind. The first thing I had ever really stolen was a pack of cigarettes at a convenience store. When my dad found out that I had been smoking at the age of 15, he asked where I got them from. I have a ton of respect for my old man, so I told him. Dad made me take them back to the man who owned the store and since then I've always been aware. I constantly thought about how easy it would be to take things without anyone noticing or even considering me as the perpetrator. I thought, but never acted. Until a few years ago...

How often are people so enamored with the cleverness of a thief, that we hope he or she will get away with it? All the time. Look at George Clooney and Brad Pitt's characters in Ocean's 11, Sir Sean Connery in Entrapment, and the great Lupin series. All of them are evidence that there is some attraction that society has for those who break the law. This brings me to my next point. What if no one broke the law? The similarities could be likened to that of disease and viruses. If there were no viruses or diseases, the human immune system would never evolve- never get stronger. One day a single virus strain could wipe out an entire population. So you see, it is necessary for counter-culture to exist. Locks and security systems have evolved over time, and so have the thieves that seek to overcome them. We are a bright group of people, problem solvers, determined, ambitious. We are the devil's advocates, we are society's stepping stone to a more secure future.
