A particularly good haul this time.
Batman: Gotham by Gaslight was quite good, but nothing special. I think I've been spoiled by the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, in that I kept thinking of better ways to use the scenario.
The City of Dreaming Books is another one of Walter Moers' Zamonia books. More plot than Bluebear and I enjoyed it more than Rumo. One gets the feeling in a number of places in the book that the author had fallen out with the publishing industry in general :)
Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon is a long read, but worth it. It's more about posing questions than answering them - can religion be studied as a natural phenomenon? Does it fit into an evolutionary model? And so on. You can tell the author is a philosopher because it sort of starts with things about whether we can ask questions, what are religions anyway and so on. If End of Faith is the sound of one atheist ranting, then this is the sound of one atheist thinking. Well worth the read.
Lonesome George: The Life and Loves of the World's Most Famous Tortoise is a lovely science book, but then again its subject (the last surviving Pinta tortoise) seems a charismatic character. For a giant tortoise. :)
