back on track!

With grim determination not to miss any more long runs, I went to the track today. My original intention was 10-12 miles, but I decided once I got there that I should only do 8. After all, I'm still getting back in the swing of things and even 8 miles is a bit of a big increment from last week's "long" run of 6.

The good:

I've lost 2.1 pounds this week and am officially no longer the heaviest I've ever been.
My time improved from 12:50 on last week's 6 miles to 11:35 on this week's 8. !! My muscles are all still there; I think the ramp up back to where I was will be speedy from here on out. Jesus, I couldn't even pull 12:30 on 3 miles earlier this week.
I am much less sore today than I was last week. And the run was way less difficult. In fact, I feel great.
But the best part of all...the gentle reader may remember that I've been having problems wheezing while running. since I had the flu. I had the bright idea to bring along my inhaler and take a puff every 2 miles whether I felt I needed it or not, and I felt damn great and not winded at all the entire run. It definitely helped!

This is awesome, and I conveniently have an appointment with my doctor on Thursday to talk about how to better manage my asthma, and to see if she thinks it's exercise-induced or not.

The bad:

My new running shoes also give me monster blisters after just a few miles. Back to square one. Argh. And ow.

So four good things to one not-so-good. I'll totally take it.
