So I haven't had the I'm-back-in-college-again nightmares yet, but the following email may induce them:

Ethan,
As the new HIPS preceptor, I look forward to meeting you and learning about your interests. If you are a SENIOR, I would appreciate your answering a few questions so that I can better organize the senior workshop to address your needs and help you complete your thesis in a timely fashion.
First, I would like to schedule a half-hour organizational meeting for the required senior workshop during the first week of the term. Please indicate whether you are unable to meet at any of the following times:
___ Wed 7 pm
___ Wed 7:30 pm
___ Wed 8 pm
___ Th 7 pm
___ Th 7:30 pm
___ Th 8 pm
___ Fri 5 pm
Second, I would like to find a little bit about what you are interested in, where you are in your project, and what you would like to get out of the workshop. More specifically:
Who is your advisor, if you have one?
If you have a thesis topic, what is it? Have you written a proposal? If you do not have a topic yet, what are you interested in?
Where are you in your work on your project? (e.g., brainstorming a topic, narrowing your focus, researching, writing)
Are there any concerns that you would like addressed in the workshop this quarter? (e.g., finding sources, relationship with your advisor, tips in writing a longer paper)
Your answers to these questions are appreciated; they will help me to plan the workshop to best serve all of you.
Best regards,
