Not entirely sure why, other than busy life and a curious lack of motivation. I even let my BPAL records slip. But no more! We got our huge Blue Moon order yesterday,
BLUE MOON 2007 -- Mugwort and bay, for psychic sensitivity;;Juniper, for divination through dreams; Orchid and galbanum, for complexity, wisdom and noscere with a potent lunar-charged blend of exquisite Asian woods, moonflower, Madagascan ylang ylang, Florentine iris, Greek cypress, davana, green tea absolute, palmarosa, cucumber, Clary sage, melilot trefoils, wood aloes, and pale creeping buttercup. This is an incredibly complex (as one might expect from the grocery list of ingredients) and beautifully blended scent. Ephemeral. Transitory and transparent, with a hint of aquatic tides. Delicate sweet herbals that die down to a subtle spice. The Asian notes and moonflower seem to linger the longest on me, surprising considering their lightness.
ROSE MOON -- Bulgarian rose, tea rose, violet leaf, opium poppy, Bois de Jasmin, patchouli leaf, honey, blue lilac, balsam, woodruff, and lemon peel. I've said it before: I'm really picky about rose scents, and I do already have some I adore (hello, Persephone. how are you, Feu Follet?). I hemmed and hawed over whether or not to order this, but I gave in and I am ever so glad that I did. This is gorgeous, delicate rose with the underlying hint of poppy and lilac, dewy woodruff and the jasmine whifting out on the dry-down.
TAMAMO-No-MAE -- soft skin musk, brushed by white tea leaf, rice flower, black locust flower, white sandalwood kodo soke, dry ginger, benzoin gum, and Amacha. This is creamy and edible, but it's the cream of rice milk custard sprinkled with crystaline ginger with just a hint of peach/apricot. (Not sure where that's coming from, but it's lovely. I wish I was more familiar with the individual notes in this.)
Plus a few other things I neglected to post about:
MAMA-JI -- Spices, cardamom, nutmeg, and flowers. Oh! This one made it into my Top Ten. Maybe even my Top Five. Mostly spice with just a hint of flowers weaving through it. Stunning.
MILK MOON 2007 -- A fertile scent, generous, life-affirming, and swelling with a sense of triumph, warmth, and abundance: sweet milk, golden honey, fig fruit, pomegranate, dates, and white grape. This is a gentle, wealthy scent: it smells like a desert of ripe figs with honey-sweetened Mascarpone in a promegranate coulis. I love foody scents but rarely has a scent evoked such a distinct visual composition. I want to go make this so I don't have to gnaw my wrist off.
MONSTER BAIT: BLOODY MARY -- Chunky, glistening red fruits with sweet cream accord, black clotted cherry, and powdered sugar! Yum. Oh, just yum. Yum, yum, yum. Sorry for not being more verbose, but my mouth is full.
MINOTAUR -- The Bull of Minos, guardian of the Labyrinth in Knossos. A deep, swarthy black musk dusted by a dark, resinous blend of sacred bisabol myrrh, atramentous benzoin, tsori, balsam, and galbanum. This is completely amazing. Dark, dark resin. Reminiscent of Schwarzer Mond but deeper and darker, something I would not have thought possible without patchouli. When I close my eyes and smell this I see ancient ruins wrapped in the darkness of a moonless sky.
