the horses ran off in the distance (how relatively soon i would come to follow..)
i had a clear view of the horizon, but the sky shone out like a lake
underneath the desert sands (blazing amber spackled with black stars
as the sun climbed up behind it)
and in a manner of course, the dust began to settle and the creaking
of the spinning wheels slowed to a still silence.
It was then I knew peace
days & nights passed in rapid succession; it seemed like one of those
time-lapse photography videos, with the occasional vulture landing
on a cactus, or maybe a tumbleweed bouncing by.
everything's become a bit clearer, while my soul went south
to enjoy Une Saison en Enfer my body lay in that ditch,
flies buzzin' around my eyes; blood drying on my saddle
food for maggots, food for worms
what nature giveth; she expects in returns
it was there that i learned how to dance,
there that i learned to sing
they gave me my new body,
the precious metals and spiderweb wings
they showed me a great number of things
few mortals have ever seen
around the fire the drums beat
keynotes to other dreams
and as the maggots devoured,
songs rejoicing every spring
our beloved lost become flowers
which to our new loves we will bring
