I have decided that my favorite writers are feminist writers. Why? They write in a way that just bleeds power. They express confidence and sensuality; they stand up to society and say "fuck you, I'm doing what's best for me and womyn everywhere". There is no taboo subject. There's no "I have to worry about what peopel will think about me if I say this". It's writing from the soul straight forward. I'm not meaning any disrespect to poetry--that is an art form which manages to express everything in such a wholistic manner without making one cringe. Feminist writing is to poetry as hockey is to ice skating. THey both use the same tools and work to speak to others, but the manner in which they write is changed.
Feminist writing is assertive. THey will nto back down to everyone. It shows what I want to be like without fear. Fear cripples a person--I'm tired of my paralysis. I'm still not to that point. One day, I may be able to express my fear--I may end up overcoming it first.
This semester, I plan on nourishing my feminist side. I feel better when I take the time to make myself look nice. I feel more powerful when I read the writings of feminists before me. I live more when I write. This semester, I'm going to work on three writings: My Book, My Days, and for class. This semester I want to nourish my spirit, and leave fear behind. It's not a resolution--it is not something only for this year, but for every year, month, day, second.
I want to get a shirt made to represent the book I'm currently reading:
Front: Cunt
Back: ain't got no vagina
