Character(s): Itachi, Deidara and the Navy
Date: summer
Setting: Mid ocean area
Summary: After Deidara is sent floating by Tenten, his luck has him picked up by the Navy and a ship he needs to start his trip to Worlds End
Warning(s): Mutiny 8D um... language? I think... bit of violence and bombage
Summer heat. There was nothing better than it with the heated rays, the sweltering temperature, the scratching uncomfortable uniforms that they had to wear and worse for the higher officials with those grey curly wigs that would only make the scalp secrete that much sweat and oil that it would drive anyone insane from the scratching. But there they were out in the ocean scouring the floor looking for the wrong doers of the sea know as Pirates to give them a good beating around to show them who is boss, locking them up to make a show of them to everyone that opposed the Navy. Those bastard pirates... they were... no where in sight.
"I think I see something up ahead" The young man yelled high up from the crows nest, his voice thick filled with the English accent, leaning almost over to the point of falling out of the watch tower to see if his suspicions were confirmed.
Shaking his head on on the front bow totally disagreed with him being that it was nothing more than an illusion from being floating around for so long. "That's drift wood you numb-skull" the older one huffed back, crossing his arms at the ignorance of the other.
Has they been out there for that long that the sun had fried his brain turning it into crispy chicken? Of course not. It had only been a day, well half a day out of port. Maybe? Oh maybe they were delirious.
Two weeks. No... well... He didn't know. He forgot or lost track. God he hated the sun. If he could not see the sun for a month or so, he'd be set. There was no way to hide from it at all. The Pirate Lord of Singapore had dropped his unconscious body in a tiny boat and pushed him away. At least she left him food and water. No rum though, that was rather depressing. Two.. something something weeks with no rum! It was torture! Now he was hearing voices talking about drift wood. Hm... not often you see drift wood when you're out in the middle of the ocean. Or maybe he was getting near land soon. He couldn't lift his head to look for the drift wood.
Reaching over, he grabbed the bottle that contained his water and drank some, then poured some on his face to cool himself off. He was almost out of water too...
Scoffing at the stupidity from the other look out, they started to argue about every small thing about, that the crate was not called a crate but it was indeed a wooden box. From there it just went to hell scrambling to get to each other wanting revenge for not believing the other. The Navy was really going to hell when idiots like they were allowed into the armed forces, not even brain cells between then to realise they were a good three meters away from each other so they couldn't even beat each other up without doing from grievous harm to themselves specially the one up on supposed look out.
"Whatever" one huffed crossing his arms turning away jutting his lip out as far as he could get it sulking for all it was worth.
"Well I don't like you anyway" she childishly retaliated, turning the other way imitating the same look.
Coming up the middle between them with longs strides was the Lieutenant-Commander made his way between them with a scowl on his face, pushing the bumbling idiot out of the way, leaning over the edge of the boat at the supposed drift wood that was bobbing on the surface. "You two are such imbeciles, couldn't you even see the boat approaching?" His nose turned up high to the sky looking down at the lesser lives for he was so much better than they were, they should be respecting him by bowing down at this feet. He was going to take this ship over and throw that arrogance bastard out. He just needed the proof he was doing something behind the back of the Navy.
Hushed whispered between the two men as they settled their differences to make up for the assholes attitude. "I like Commander Uchiha better than him" "Uhuh agreed"
Deidara finally lifted his head when a shadow crossed the boat. A ship! He sat up slowly, groaning softly from the strain in his body from not using his muscles for so long. Oh, shit. A navy ship. What had gone wrong with his luck lately? First the Pirate Mistress knocks him unconscious, now the navy was about to pick him up. It just wasn't fair. He sat back in the boat, watching the ship come closer. They might have rum on the ship though. He grinned a little at the thought. If not rum, then some alcoholic beverage at least. The men on the boat seemed to see him and call out in shock that someone was alive in the boat. Shouting voices came from the deck as men rushed to look and see if they were telling the truth, or to help pull the boat up.
"Commander," a man knocked on the Uchiha's door, bowing shortly to him. "Sir, a small boat is close to the ship. There's a survivor aboard." He gave him all the information he would need as short as he could, then waited to see if his commander wanted him to do something, or if he wanted to come out with him and see.
Deidara caught the rope that was thrown over his boat, letting them drag the pathetic piece of wood over to haul him up onto the deck. Questions were thrown at him as the boat was pulled up. The map was safe around his back in it's leather container. There wasn't any fear of it being taken yet. He pretended to be dazed as they questioned him, drinking the water brought for him. Listen first then talk.
The worse part of being named Commander was not the responsibility that came with it but the ridiculous amount of paperwork that followed, every little thing needed to be documented and scrutinised by the higher aboves to evaluate his job to make sure that he was going it correctly. Sometimes it had crossed his mind to forget information so they would demote him in status being that the job was not to his capability. Capable yes, willing no. There are many in the British Royal Navy that could have filled his shoes for this role only that they decided on the one that didn't want it at all, punishment maybe for letting his Commander die while he himself was locked in battle, either way it was a tedious job that he wished would just disappear.
There were things happening recently that weren't to his liking at all, the way that the EITC butted in utilising the Navy for their own needs, changing the laws so if anyone that had been or was affiliated with a pirate would be executioned by daybreak the next day. Even women and children that they were meant to protect were no longer safe, meeting the gallows the same as every man would without prejudice. No he had no sympathy for them after consorting and adding the help of criminals but to take such acts upon them quickly without trial was ludicrous, even members of the Navy were under suspicion with no reservations for execution one of their own if even a hint of being associated with a pirate. He had not been an angel, that burning hatred lost for a fleeting moment after a confrontation that lead to things he couldn't imagine. Now he had to watch himself especially with that power tripping Lieutenant on the prowl wanting his place. If he wanted it that bad he would have gave it to him.
A call for a survivor on a drifting ship out at sea brought him to his feet, following the seaman out onto the upper decks to investigate another tragic incident of someone lost at sea. Seriously they were becoming a rescue patrol rather than a pirate look out. "Pirate or merchant?" the Commander barked wanting more of those quick short answers. These people would not have even known what a pirate was unless it was tattooed on them, most of the ship was fresh after the great loss at Port Royal, most of them had never seen action.
"Unknown Sir. He looks like a women"
Itachi slowed his paces down in remembrance of one who he had come across that was in such a form, that blonde he had rescued from the Pirate Lord, Kisame of the Black Sea, that had been taken captive. No it couldn't have been him, he up and left after port leaving him with only the brief memory of him, the talk they shared of exploring the map for the wonderful sights he had been missing out on. Returning to normal pace he advanced up to the deck bringing everyone to a stand to attention excluding the Lieutenant who wanted to voice his opinion of the crew and the uselessness of them.
"They couldn't even tell it was a ship at all, driftwood they say. You need to find yourself another look out Uchiha or else we will all be going to Davy Jones's Locker" he huffed with arrogance which did not please Itachi at all.
Dark eyes flashed at him, narrowed in a glare for the lack of respect towards him. "That's Commander Uchiha" he reminded him, while not liking the title, to be addressed so informal as something that might have been considered only as friends he would not tolerate. A glance over at the seaman who nodded straight away understanding what was going to be asked next without even a word said between them.
"Yes Sir I will take you to him"
Deidara laid against the rail, chugging the cool less stale water the seamen were bringing him. He was going to have to take a huge piss later, but he didn't care. His body was so dehydrated he needed it. He ate the bread given to him as well, sighing happily in contentment. "Thank you," he said to them, voice hoarse from the sun and salt that had dried on him. He was a dusty white from it, but he didn't bother brushing it off just yet.
The Navy crew was throwing questions at him, was he attacked by pirates, was his ship destroyed and many others. Deidara pretended to try to answer, but only made a hoarse noise, clutching his throat like he couldn't talk. It did hurt, but he didn't owe them any information. Being picked up by a Navy ship was bad luck on his part, but he would survive. There was only one thing that could make his luck worse, but it was impossible. The ocean was huge and he doubted he'd meet up with him again.
"Sir, here is the survivor," a sailor said, as he came closer, men parting to let them through.
Deidara looked up and cursed in his head. His luck just got worse. Of all the people to pick him up, it had to be this Japanese commander. He hoped he didn't recognize him.
The line of people parted leading towards him, Itachi was focused on the report that his subordinate was giving in what they had found, the story that he had given being that there were pirates that attacked and he was lucky to make it out alive and really if there was driftwood in the area then that supported it but there was always the chunks of wood floating up on shore at one point or another. A story it might have been but unless identified as a pirate then he wasn't going to hold any prejudice against him, a person in need was just that until proven guilty.
"I want to you prepare the..." his head shifted up stopping as his dark eyes met with the deep blue temporarily thrown, never imagining it really was him once again. Suspicious though, two times being attacked, once taken hostage. He always seemed to be in some kind of trouble. "Emergency quarters so he can have a good rest and a decent meal" he finally finished, staring straight at him.
Nod of the men nodded walking up to the blonde helping him move in case he was so dehydrated that his legs would give way, leading him off to their temporarily lodging and certainly not his sleeping quarters like he had so boldly suggested once before. As he was lead past his eyes traced his passing, giving that as his only recognition towards remembering who he was, turning back to the snivelling Lieutenant that was calling for his attention. Acknowledging him only would have drawn questions and that he was wanting to avoid, he didn't trust that one below him for a minute especially how he scrutinised everything he did. "Tie off the ship and search the area to see if there is anyone else alive" he told his men, walking away from the Lieutenant that bounded by him to get his attention.
Being pestered as he walked away, Itachi couldn't take it anymore, snapping his head at the annoyance with a deep growl brewing in the back of his throat. "And I'm going back to my quarters" Un-waiting of his answer he walked off leaving the crew behind.
Well, at least it wasn't the brig. Deidara sat down at the table letting the men help him down and ate the food prepared for him. They assured him that they were going to search the surrounding area for more survivors, hopefully they would find some of his family. It took a lot to keep himself from rolling his eyes. He had never said anything about whether he was attacked or not. He had been attacked, but it was in a sly, women sort of way. Tenten was such coward.
He watched the men leave, knowing they'd post guards outside of his door just in case. When they were gone, he finished up his meal, going over to the bed and pulled off the salt dusted clothes to climb under the covers. Ah... a bed. What luxuries these Navy brats had. Taking the leather container off the floor, he opened it up and pulled out the map.
Finally. Finally, he could look at it, study it, learn from it. The map was like none he'd ever seen before, and could recognize it anywhere. Laying it flat, he began spinning the inner most circle, watching the pictures distort and match with different phrases that made no sense when looking at it now. Spinning the next circle out, he began spotting things that perked his interest and made a wicked grin spread over his face. Oh this would be more fun then he could contain! First he had to get off this blasted ship and start towards the first destination. He wondered if he could kill the crew and take this ship for himself. There was a lot of soldiers on the ship, but there were ways of killing masses successfully.
Also that Commander. He knew he'd recognized him. If he had any suspicions of piracy in him, he was doomed. They would lock him in the brig then. He hated being at someone else's mercy. Munching on a piece of bread, he glanced over at the door wondering how to deal with his current situation.
Back and forth into his office his men came in to give play by play updates on what was happening with the search rescue to find anyone that might have been around, hoping that the blonde wasn't the only one that was floating by in the water. Chances were there could have been more but everything was pointing to not for the moment. He didn't need to be there to hold their hand the entire was so the interruption was starting to escalate his very thin tolerance level towards human contact, ready to let loose at the next person that came in. Thankfully it was one of the newest crew who hadn't been properly informed of his attitude, the piece of paper held in his hand scrunched up into a tight ball glaring deeply at him through his almond eyes producing a growl from deep in the back of his throat.
"Until anything concrete has emerged, don't disrupt me" the Commander ordered quickly sending his officer scampering from the room with his tail between his legs.
Hopefully free of everyone this time, Itachi sunk back into his chair with a sigh closing his weary eyes for a moments rest. There was much to be thought about with the arrival of that blonde once again, never confirmed to be a traitorous pirate in the end leaving with suspicions but forgotten about shortly afterwards. Surely this meeting wasn't coincidental, he was out there most likely dumped by someone for a reason and that reason he would like to know, not letting him go this time without answer. Standing back to his feet he moved towards the emergency quarters looking at the two guards that were standing post signalling a dip of his head letting him through the doors, returning to their positions back outside taking point again.
Turning and turning the circles in the map, he studied it closely, listening for anyone to come in. The end of the world... he would get to it. And it would be the most fantastic thing anyone would ever do. All he had to do now was get off this boat, find himself a ship and a crew - Tortuga would be good for that, there was always morons looking to be a pirate or crew member.
Footsteps outside made him roll up the map quickly, tucking it away and sat up in bed with just his underwear on. Thinking again, he pulled his shirt on too. He wasn't supposed to be a pirate, so there were things to hide. Seeing the Commander entering, he made a little face, but hid it as soon as he looked his way. "Thank you for picking me up, sir," he said, being on his best manners for now.
"Hmmm yes" Itachi hummed looking over at the bed where the blonde sat. Too many questions with answers he knew he was not going to get. No one was that unlucky all the time to be attacked, even more so running into a Navy vessel twice maybe bad luck on his part. "So how does one find themselves floating in the middle of the ocean like that?" That certainly left himself open for a 'well I was sailing' response.
Circling around the room he scanned the area for anything out of the ordinary, being left alone would have let his guard down maybe to check into something or even scan the room for something to take, maybe plot escape. With him who knew, but whatever it was he was certainly making sure that nothing was left unturned. "And why do you keep on ending up in these situations?"
"I just have the worst luck I guess, un," he said, drawing his legs up to his chest as he watched him. "I was tricked by a woman, and she sent me drifting unconscious." Letting his knees go down onto the bed, he leaned back against the cabin wall, watching Itachi. "Have you lost something, un?"
This captain was suspicious of him. Now he had two choices: play dumb and not be a pirate, or drop the act and either a, capture him or b, convince him to join. Capturing him might be tough for him now because of how weak he was feeling. The oils Tenten had used had worn off but being in the sun for so long made him weak too.
Tricked by a women? Who would have thought that there was someone out there who would be able to do that, he was thinking more along the lines of seduced and then dumped being that was the way that they worked. Every single one of them was all alike, hmph annoying they were. Not acknowledging what had happened to him for the time being, the cold dark eyes continued to look not discreetly enough to pick up on the fact that he was searching around, turning to Deidara focusing on him. Most people would break under a glare like that but not him, something always so off about him but yet you can't help but believe everything he said. Strange man he was.
"No" he flat out stated telling the truth. He hadn't lost something, at least not yet with everything looking in place. "We will drop you off at port where you are free to leave, at least this time with permission" Just up and left last time, they hadn't completed questioning on him before he took off leaving many things unanswered. Still he could find nothing that would keep him there unless something suspicious arose then he was free to go.
"Hmmm...? Was I supposed to have permission last time, un?" he asked, resting his chin on his knee. "Sorry~ Something urgent came up and I couldn't stay and play, un."
He refused to give in to this pretty boy Commander. What a nasty glare he was giving him too! Yeah he definitely suspected him; He met Itachi's glare with unwavering blue eyes. "But this time I'm free to go as soon as we make port? How come? Because I'm not a prisoner this time? How come you're always the one who picks me up, un? You sound like a stalker... I rarely have bad luck and it's always you who picks me up when I do get it, un..."
"Because you haven't done anything that have caused you to be under suspicion" he flatly replied. Being on a ship with a now confirmed Pirate Lord would do little for being trusted with your word, pirates were devilish and would say anything to get out of being caught. Turning on your own kind wasn't uncommon in that world but then again other things were possible as found out through his own encounters with the fiends. Those opinion had dimmed from pure hatred to something else unexplainable nor was he going to try and justify it in his own mind but something had changed at least with one.
Doing his best to ignore that stalker comment it was all matters of circumstance that he had been the one to pick him up each time, unlucky for both of them but not intentional. It was patrolling just like they were meant to sweeping the sea for any activity that would require the attention of the Navy so he was foolish enough to get stuck out on the water. Granted though he didn't mind seeing him again but the feelings were not mutual as it appeared to be, the conversation shared with him had really intrigued him. "Next time I will be sure to leave you for your death then to be picked at by seagulls"
Something was pulling him to stay even though his hand had brushed against the door handle to leave, staying around might find out more or it could reveal something he could have been hiding, taking the time to pull up a chair, sitting with his leg hitched over his knee staring at the blue eyes watching him curiously to what could have been in that brain of his. What secrets were there. "What did you do to deserve being left for dead by a women in the ocean?"
Ooh, he had interested him. That amused him, but he kept his expression innocent as he wrapped his arms around his knees, leaning forward on his feet. "I did nothing," he replied, eyes wide to emphasis that innocence. "She didn't leave me for dead, didn't you see all the food she left me, un?" He grinned at him, sliding his legs out again to get up and pick up a piece of bread from the table, pouring himself some water as well. Sitting back down on the cot, he crossed his legs and balanced the cup on the side of his knee to leave his hands free to pull little pieces of bread apart.
"Why are you so interested in that, un?" he asked, making a motion that he could have some of the food or drink if he wanted. He could go for some rum as well, but he didn't think he could just up and ask for that. Navy officers didn't drink something as good as rum. "What about you? Perhaps I'm interested in you, can I ask questions? Why are you still a Navy pet? You seemed interested in our previous conversation, un."
"Curiosity is to find information out. No women would be so bold in throwing away a man without a reason" he replied crossing his arms over his chest giving the look of this being more of a formal talk rather than something so social. And yet he did not looked scorned by it, either good at hiding it or plainly he just didn't care somehow he think it was the didn't care part since he seemed so... carefree...or something along those lines. Most people would have been screaming bloody murder if anything happened against them no matter what the gender was but he was there happily eating his bread and drinking that horrible looking water.
The notion that he was interested in him brought to Commander to almost laughing point, a short stiff huff was the response from it not at all liking the fact of Q&A time with him especially since it was not his place to freely ask questions of him. "You hint your interest but yet in the same breath you had accused me of being a stalker. Why would someone want to know more about the person who is following you around to cause you bad luck" Itachi retorted looking back at him with a deep stare.
He didn't want to answer any questions about himself nor his status in the Navy. Sure interests were given previously but it was in passing conversation, to do and what you could do were two things and so his heart was not lying where it should have been with doubt towards the company that he had so valiantly fought for. Now something had changed his mind still he could not just up and leave to do whatever of his own free will, he had a duty to the Navy as well as the country that had chosen to adopt him temporarily taking him under it's wing so he could help fight towards the eradication of pirates. Still was is that easy to read that he didn't want to be there.
"So you do admit you're following me around, un," he said, looking fascinated as he leaned on his elbow to look at him. "I still don't understand why you're so interested in her. And maybe it was just because she was too polite to tell me herself that she was done with my company." That was ridiculous, but he didn't really care how it sounded. He liked confusing the Commander and keeping his interest peeked without giving himself away
He thought for a moment in silence, then smacked his hand into his palm as a thought came to him. "You're miserable aren't you, un?" he asked, downing the water and put the cup down on the ground. "You dislike working in the Navy. Then why don't you work somewhere else or in a different station? ....Or do you just... hate pirates?" He smiled innocently at him, looking genuinely curious as he looked at him.
A sideways glance at him at the fact that he was dumped out in the water by a lover... maybe... whore? Either way whoever it was certainly was spineless in their tactics of dumping him but yet at the same time explainable being that he looked like the type of person that would get on some one's nerves. If he had known him better then that would most likely happen with him as well especially with the lack of tolerance he had for people. Wait why was he thinking about him like that? He was just someone he rescued and not someone he wanted to spend more time around... well okay he interested him... that was all.
Eyes cast down to the ground in response to the blonde's assumptions, one arm uncrossed to rest his mouth between the webbing of his thumb and index finger thinking over it some more before he would answer something like that. Did he hate pirates.... yes but.... things had changed, things that he would have never foreseen for himself now the level has decreased lightly with somewhat more of a tolerance for them. Not all of them were vile disgusting creatures although their attitude left some things open that could have been changed like the killing of innocents without remorse but in reality the Navy wasn't that much different these days. Kill first ask questions later. He was surprised the Lieutenant hadn't gave the orders to blow Deidara up out of the water when he first saw him floating there in his ship.
"It's complicated" the Commander replied on all counts. He couldn't just put it into words for him, not even this thoughts could be calculated to make sense.
"I'm not going anywhere, un," he assured him, leaning forward to pick up his pants and shake them out of salt that had dried on them. Settling back on the cot, he propped his head up on his hands and leaned forward to listen closely to him. Had he known what Itachi's thoughts were on his previous lady experience he would have defended himself by saying that she was a pirate lord like he was so how could you expect them to trust each other enough to say a happy fair well and part ways with waving handkerchiefs? Real pirate acquaintances poison each other and send them floating away with a bit of food.
This was certainly not going the way it was supposed to be, something backwards with him turning the situation around wanting to get the answers from the Commander when the captured man should have been doing it. He didn't know how this happened but unconsciously he was loosening up his stance, uncrossing his legs leaning back in the chair with a sigh looking up at the roof above like a tremendous weight was laying on his chest that he couldn't get rid of.
"What makes you think I am their lap dog? Why would you think that I dislike working for them?" Either he was good as reading the smallest thing or he was screaming it. If someone like him could pick it up but what about others around him, this was not a good sign. But still he wasn't answering turning it back into a form of a question back onto the blonde, still defensive and guarded with a high barrier.
"Ehh.... it's subtle, un," he told him, playing with a piece of his hair. "You just seem ... tied down. Why would you want to be tied down? The way I see it, whenever you have to answer to someone else, you're a lap dog. I'd rather be free to do what I want and go where I want, you know?" He grinned and crossed his legs to rest his elbows on them. "You're avoiding my question too, un."
That was certainly a fools dream to live like that just going wherever you wanted to without thinking on consequences, being your own man was something that never happened everyone had their place in the world and this was his being chained down by these ridiculous rules that kept on changing thanks to the EITC's radical way of thinking. So they followed along with them but what choice did they have? Poverty was not something that people sort after.
"I am not avoiding your question I just want clarification for what you are talking about" Itachi retorted although it was clear, peeking down at him through the slits down the bottom of his eyes from the weird laid back again, looking back at him curiously. He still wasn't answering, not until he got him something that was able to dig his teeth into, to hook and bait him in or else there was no interest to answer.
"So why do you hate pirates?" he asked him, crawling over to reach for an apple on the table. He examined it for a moment, then took a bite. "You never know, some might just be out for the adventure part of the whole thing, not the money and ransacking. From what I understand, they just like the shiny stuff, un." He grinned at him, then stood, pulling his pants on and buckled it at his hips. Going over to the table, he sat down at the other chair and faced him.
The rustling of the bedsheets caught his attention following the movements around the room, watching with a close eye until he took his seat across from him causing Itachi's head to bend back down to upright looking over at him temporarily before looking away to the corner of the room. "I have my reasons, those which are personal and I don't wish to share" he flat out stated. Reasoning alone on why some did the things they did was not enough to bring him around to their ways of thinking, yes some might have been out there for that thrill but others mindlessly destroyed towns, they killed innocent lives, they took what did not rightfully belong to them and they laughed about it.
...They laughed at him. Something that would forever haunt him in the back of his mind. "This maybe true but its still lifestyle they chose to lead outside the boundaries of the law. It was put in place for a reason, others have to follow it so why should they have the given right not to" His voice peaked in a slight growl, having to catch himself before it was taken too far into anger, a deep long exhale brought that control back.
"What about you? What are your views towards them then?"
"Laws are man made aren't they?" Deidara discussed. "Where does it say that one group has to make the rules for everyone, un? And if there is such a rule, isn't that man made too? Even if long ago there was a group that decided on that rule, what gives them the divine right to make the rules for the entire world?" He smiled at him, pausing to let that sink in. The young commander looked angry, but from what Deidara knew of him just from sitting and watching him, he wasn't the type of man to let his anger control him. He would listen to what he had to say.
"My views...." he started again, looking up at the ceiling of the small cabin, scratching his chin. "Every man is different, it's what they choose to do at that moment that makes them. Some of the scum that get captured deserve to be hanged, but do you really think that every person that hints piracy deserves to be hanged? I watched a six year old being hanged because his parents use to be pirates, un. I am only man. Who am I to judge?"
He was deadly silent listening to the opinion put across that he had asked of, listening intently without even a rustle of his clothes from natural reactions to sitting still, even this breathing had dropped to abnormally quiet focusing his full attention on the way he saw the world. Points he had stated were valid for the war started for reasons that no one could remember, each continuing on throughout time waging a battle because something had told them to do so. Who made the rules in the first place? Too many were caught up without knowing what they were fighting for, now it was pure instinct.
Glancing over at the blonde when that subject was raised towards morals, something more of a touchy subject over the passing weeks with the change of order around the place. The old values they stood for were slowly being eradicated leaving behind relentless tyrants that power had gone to their head that even he had witnessed.
A small child no more than four years old strung up with the rest of the adults standing proud not letting fear get to her as they put them all on display for all to witness the power of what they could do. She hadn't even shed a tear for her own life that was about to be taken away, the lines behind all awaiting execution hadn't even spoke out against how disgraceful it was, she was only a baby. He had watched her the entire time from within shadows fixated on her dirty face watching her eyes till the end of her life as they released the gates that dropped them down, snapping her neck instantly at least so she didn't suffer. He knew very well what was going on but it was not his place to say for only the people were the ones that could speak up about it, given enough it would put a dent in their grand plans but instead they chose to follow the path of silence down into death. They were sacrificing themselves for worthless pirates that didn't give a damn about them.
"Neither side is right" he mumbled lost deep in his conflicting thoughts.
"Well put," Deidara said with a smile. "But those that make those rules... well they're only man too." He laughed a little then settled back in the chair with an orange, peeling the tough rind away to access the juice fruit inside. When the peel was off and the small pieces lay inside the bigger peels, he pulled apart each section and sucked on the juice in thought.
"So what made you chose this side, un?" he asked after a moment, tilting his head to the side. "You're not English, you remind me more of my lady friend who resides in the East, but even she doesn't come to this side of the world without good reason."
It was amusing to see hear him continue to ask questions even though he should have been fully aware by now that he didn't answer them especially when it came to talking about himself yet he still persisted in asking for something that he wouldn't have replied to. He would entertain him with this one however being that it was in regards to the subject they had been discussing so nothing too personal would be revealed. His own men knew little about him so a complete stranger would be no different.
"My family is in the business of international trade" the Commander stated, leaning forward to pour himself a glass of water. "We came to England to strengthen the bonds between countries for better business" Taking a mouthful he placed the glass back down on the table, satisfied that the liquid had momentarily quelled this thirst. "I was meant to join them in this trade but the corruption between 'businessmen' did not appease me so I took my own direction"
The Uchiha's were as corrupt as the pirates and at times even more ruthless, hiding behind the visage that they were there to help the economy not only of England but of their own small country which worked for a while before temptation got the better of them. They were no longer taking to means that would be classes as honorific, they were taking to consorting with pirates as a means to an end and would throw anyone into the deep end making sure that they weren't going to take the fall if something was to go wrong. He had been that to them, witnessing things that he shouldn't have in his preparation to take over in his father's footsteps that soon left him shunned by all and labelled a worthless traitor. Making the decision that he was never going to be like them he enlisted in the Navy for defiance knowing that he was going to be seeking out the bastards that were the root of the problem, distancing himself further away from them so he would not get caught deeper into the life of corruption. So much for that happening. The Navy was turning out just like them.
"...So instead you chose the corruption of 'gentlemen', un," he said with a smiled, nodding a little. At least he hadn't made it sound as though he was choosing the side because he was a coward.
"But you're only looking at a road with two directions to choose from," he continued, nibbling at a slice of orange. "Most roads have others branching off you know... roads that you can take for your own direction and not be lead along by a leash, un."
The door suddenly burst open, soldiers stomping in with the Lieutenant leading them. Deidara jumped up at the sight of their readied guns all pointing at him. "Sir!" the Lieutenant barked. "We've identified this man in our books of known pirates!" He walked in confidently, standing by Itachi's chair trying to look more important for having found this information out before Itachi had. "Deidara Awai."
Storming over to the blond, he grabbed his arm and pulled his shirt away from his chest, showing the tattoo design on his left chest, jerking him over to show Itachi. "See? His profile shows this and," he pushed the shirt down more to show his shoulder, another tattoo - of a bird this time. Deidara narrowed his eyes at the man jerkin him around, but other wise didn't protests it.
Suspicions he had about him but to be told that he was a pirate was something that took him as much of a shock, nothing like the pirates that he had seen of the past not vulgar or murderous, he was just like a normal person that had just... had a few screws loose inside. "Are you really a pirate?" Itachi asked firmly, allowing his men to hold him back making sure that someone that would have been branded a criminal wouldn't escape.
"Isn't it obvious the information is right there!" the Lieutenant spat, waving around the proof right in front of him. He couldn't be that blind to miss it or perhaps he was working with him. They seemed to be kind of cozy working together, how fast he took him away before being questioned, offering him a room to stay in along with food while at the same time he was in there having a nice little 'chat'. "Or are you consorting with pirates, pig!" he spat back finally connecting the dots.
Itachi was enraged by the way he was treated by his own men, standing tall in front of him looking down over his taller frame at him growling deeply in the back of his throat for actions that would have seen the shorter man in the brig for even considering him for treason. "You are in no position to say anything to me Lieutenant" he reminded him of his lesser power.
The weaselly laugh passed his lips as if he knew something he didn't, the final piece needed to make a claim on him and take that job for his own. "This from the filth that got close enough to be scared by one" That mark had now since faded leaving only light scaring behind but its significance was starting to spread like wildfire throughout the region. It was the mark of that young pirate that was known for peddling his bootleg rum over the country side. He was so high on his pedestal that he never realised that he had been investigating him, what he had been up to, who he was associating with, the Commander had drawn quite a bit of attention over the past month and the higher ups were not happy with him at all. But now he would be hung along with the blonde bitch at his side. This was a glorious day.
Deidara glanced at the Lieutenant with an annoyed look. What a mouth this guy had. Deidara was short, but his reach wasn't horrible. Pulling his arm back, he slammed his elbow into the lieutenant's mouth. There was a disgusting crunch as several teeth broke on impacted, nose crunching as well as he fell back onto the bed, cracking his head against the wall and slid down on the cot unconscious. "You have a big mouth, un," he told the unresponsive soldier.
the men gasped in surprise, trying to point their guns at him, but started bumping into each other, unsure of what to do now that their new leader was out for the count. They glanced at Itachi, but the Uchiha was supposed to be under the favor of the Navy now. They couldn't turn to him for a command. Deidara picked up his leather pack and turned to face the soldiers. "You're not taking me alive," he told him with a nasty smirk. "But you're not taking me dead either."
"Stand down, pirate!" one snapped at him.
"No you stand down!" Itachi yelled back telling him unresponsive men to back off but they weren't willing to. They were confused about the entire situation especially with no one to turn to then there was only one thing to do which was to act on their own and take the control for themselves.
The next highest stepped up to the plate raising his weapon at his Commander, trying not to shake but he was scared of what was going to happen since he had a gun pointing at the man that they had admired and looked up to but now he was helping out a pirate. "We can't do that Sir" he reminded him of the costs of treason was death. "You.... You are to come with us to be trialled for death" He swallowed hard, making sure they had a firm eye on both of them.
Trialled!? What a joke that was. They didn't have trials, it was put to death straight away, hung with the rest of the people that did not deserve such fate but there was nothing else for him to do. Closing his eyes he hung his head down, smirking at them behind the hair that fell over his face. "You might as well shoot me now"
"What's the point in getting a trial if you're just gonna die?" Deidara questioned, catching their attention. "Wouldn't it be better to just hang us?"
"You're getting hung, Uchiha gets a trial because he has Ranks," the man replied, glaring at the blond.
"I have a rank too, you're just not smart enough to understand that."
The man lowered his gun at the stab to his ego, glaring darkly. "You're just pirate scum!"
"You're pants are unbuckled," Deidara commented, pointing at his pants. Like the morons they were, they all went to look. Rolling his eyes, Deidara slipped his hand into his bag and pulled out a small explosive, throwing it in their midst then jumped to grab Itachi to pull him to the ground as it exploded. Only the door way was damaged, that was good, but everyone around it got thrown back against the wall. Chuckling in an egotistical manner, Deidara helped Itachi up and walked through the door way up to the deck and over to the ship's wheel, taking it like it was his own ship.
It felt like a tonne of bricks had hit him not expecting to be tackled around by the smaller male, then again everything went by so fast that he hadn't seen the danger he posed, only the shrapnel that went flying over his head. He was insane! His ship just have a nice part of it remodeled but then again being his ship was now a word of a past, now it was property of the Navy and that unconscious pompous asshole he had taken out that got relocated from the bed to be bent half way over the bed instead.
He hadn't even got time to question it being pulled up to his feet, looking over his shoulder back at the carnage following Deidara out certainly now he could add mutiny to the list of charges especially aided by a pirate. "What are you doing?" he asked the newly self proclaimed captain of the ship, standing back while he took the wheel not expecting anything beneficial to come out of this at all.
Deidara smirked down at the people still on deck, staring at him in disbelief. They had no idea where that huge noise came from. They had no idea what had gone on, but Deidara made it clear as he pulled a piece of cloth out of the side bag strung across his chest from his shoulder and tied part of his hair up. "Everyone remain calm, I'm taking over the ship, un!" he barked in a commanding voice. Everyone glanced around to see what exactly he had meant, not believing him and ended up in light chuckles. Glances at Itachi, their Commander, looking for commands they didn't know he wouldn't or couldn't give now.
Their laughter didn't affect the Pirate Lord at all as he continued. "Anyone who enjoys the life of danger and adventure, stay aboard... anyone else can get in your little boats and paddle back home. Anyone who tries to stop me, well...." He smirked evilly at them, causing a few who were close enough to see it take a step away. "I will personally send you down to the Locker, un."
The laughter quickly died down to nothing after the intended threat against them, most of them were hot heavy headed soldiers that were waiting to get a taste of their very first pirate but now that they had one in front of them they were a bit dumbfounded. Commotions started between them wondering if it was real and if so then how come their Leader wasn't doing anything, just letting him take the ship for his own needs and ditching them off that's if they didn't choose to retaliate. "Commander" most of them called out in a confused tone, needing his guidance as he was supposed to give.
Only Itachi was not in the position to give that anymore nor was he listening to them, instead fixated on the blonde pirate taking over their ship. He was never right for the position in the first place only taking orders was what he was good at, certainly not leadership material. "I will state this once again, what are you doing besides taking over the ship?" he asked putting more emphasis on his words. He wasn't too overly sure if he was going to allow such things anyway, he still was his enemy and he had to think about the men as well.
"I'm in need of a ship," he told Itachi, then turned to the crew to wait for their answer. "You have ten seconds to comply, un," he told the crew, pulling out a compass and glanced at it then turned the wheel a few notches to take it in a different direction, heading south now. After counting to ten he looked down at the people still staring at him. "All those staying say aye!"
"We can't go with him" "No he is a pirate" "He will be hung for treason" "Well I don't want to be killed by him" "Why isn't the Commander doing anything"
The men was indecisive with their decision some of them naive, some of the older ones thinking of their families that they would leave behind but the time frame that he gave was too short to make that choice. Time ticked down expecting to be randomly grabbed and thrown overboard bobbing with the fishes and sharks, most likely to drown, eerie silence circled the group until one brave seaman stepped forward, raising his hand in the air. "Aye" he nodded taking the offer he had gave to them. One by one more stood up proclaiming that they would follow the pirate mostly because it seemed the Commander was siding with him and if he was then it had to be something radical that would have made him turn to the other side but others would not take that step, hanging in the back while the group split.
A quarter decided that they would join with him while the other three quarters would not follow such a leader, parting the group like the red sea presenting themselves to Deidara for his commanding orders ready to work for him.
Smirking down at them, he strode down to the group and went over to the group that refused to go to his side. Turning suddenly to point, he caused them all to turn themselves to see what he was pointing out. "Commence to the long boats then, so that we may be off, un!" he barked, turning again and going back up to the wheel again, dragging a table over to sit next to it, dropping his leather hold for the map on it to open after the Navy brats were gone.
Some of them weren't going without a fight or at the least an extreme protest yelling about the injustice that was brought against them being mistreated by their own peers but yet the group that had decided to stay as a few strong men in it that were able to drive them back up into a corner. A scream, a jump, others tripped over their own feet trying to get in accidentally tumbling into the water with a mighty splash nose diving into the ocean to take the rest of the journey back wet.
"There are some in the quarters" Itachi spoke up towards them to kindly retrieve the Lieutenant and the others since they would only cause more problem than good. Moments later they were dragging them out dumping the bodies into the boat, waving to the staggering snake that held his hand over covering his face covered with blood courtesy of the blonde.
"You will pay for this! I will make sure you all go down" he screamed out at the boat as he drifted away, too cowardly to say it to their face, waiting until they were just in ear shot.
"Welcome to freedom, men!" Deidara called to them, taking the map out of his bag and laid it out on the table. "We're about to start on a journey that no man has survived from, un!" That would have been discouraging, but Deidara didn't add that he had something that the others who never survived had. The map. The key. He grinned at it as he played with the spinning circles of wood inside of the map, starting their course towards Tortuga to put in for supplies.
A short eruption of cheers as if they had been slaves finally release from their captors now free of the oppression of the Navy to live life like they should have, not as pirates but as normal men taking on an adventure in their mind, the added stipulation of survival brought them back to a hushed silence whispering amongst each other on what could have been so dangerous. Maybe it wasn't a correct choice to make after all but what did they expect really? They just went off with a pirate who commandeered their ship.
There was one that was more reserved to all of this, sitting back quietly watching the blonde playing with something that he had obtained from somewhere, more than likely stolen from someone now that his nature of who was he was now known. He had no interest in knowing his plans, his mind was clouded with thoughts of what he had just done and what had been leading up to this, all of his own doing to become an outlaw throwing away everything he had known. The Navy had been his life for so long that he didn't know anything outside of it.
Pushing himself back up off the pillar that he had been supporting himself on, Itachi strode past Deidara and down the small flight of stairs ignoring all of the questions being thrown at him from what was his ex men, down to his cabin straight into his bunk. He needed time alone to gather himself to make sense of all of this, he just wanted to be alone to process everything.
Deidara watched him go, frowning a little, but shrugged and picked up the map and strode down to the deck with his waiting crew, holding out the map. "We are going... to Davy Jone's Locker," he told them with a smirk. "Getting to World's End is easy, but no one's ever come back. But that's because they didn't have this." He showed the map to them, letting them see, but not touch it. "It's a puzzle, and I love puzzles so don't worry so much. By the time we get there I will have figured it out. For now, head South by Southwest."
Leaving them with that order, Deidara strode down the stairs and made the Lieutenant's old cabin his own, tossing a few things on the floor he didn't need or want. When he was finished, he walked over to the Commander's room, and opened without knocking. Leaning up against the door frame he folded his arms as he looked over at him.
Every thing was gone, he had nothing left. For so long he had hid himself inside the Navy fighting against the injustice of the countries serving the purpose to wipe out tyrants so it would be safer from the corruption of men but now there was nothing left. He was just as fraudulent as them all, he had sort out a pirate for his own personal pleasure knowing that it was against laws not to arrest him on the spot so he should have been expecting it only that it really did happen. He had been careful, it was discreet but somehow they had found out... no they couldn't have. It was just wild accusations made in the head of the moment only that this time he had hit it dead on, his indiscretions were known in some sense and even worse, he now was a fugitive because of it. How was he to know that he was a pirate? There was never no proof around that he was. Maybe he was blinded by the fact that he had found him intriguing with the talk they shared together.
Glancing up at doorway from his position sitting on the bed that saw his dark eyes fixated on the ground, his composure came back to his usual prideful self pushing the thoughts away not to be thought about again. "Can I help you?" he asked wondering why he had come down to see him. He had a nice big ship now, surely he would be busy telling everyone on what to do.
"You looked like you were going to come down here and kill yourself, un," Deidara said bluntly. What a waste that would be. He was also irritated that he was taking the fact that he'd lost his high ranking position so hard. It wasn't that big of a deal to Deidara. Why would anyone want to stay as someone's lap dog for the rest of their life. "Don't be stupid. You're a weak fool if you act like this, and I'd rather you get on the other long boat and paddle away to be hung then stay down here to rot away, un."
What else did he expect for him to do? Just sit there with a happy smile and be glad to be rid of them. He had just erased everything he known within the matter of minutes that had sent him into a state of confusion. The position he never wanted from the beginning, protesting after they forced it onto him thanks to that raid to help that damned Pirate Lord escape since he was not in a position of leadership, he was a lap dog for them because all he knew was how to follow. He would have remained lower down the ranks as long as it caused him to float by life unnoticed. He had given up his own identity and now he was lost without it, able to tell what side of the law it would put him on but it was clear that they were now outlaws and going back would never happen. Now the only one in his life that actually gave a damn about him would now despise him just like the others did.
"Think what you like" he replied harshly, not caring on what views he had about his mood. He never expected him to understand at all, he was a pirate and they only thought about themselves and no one else. "But I am not going to rot down here" He was not that weak.
"You sure look like you're gonna, un," Deidara told him, sauntering over to stand in front of him. "You look like you're gonna burst out in tears any second. Most people'd be happy they're not a slave to someone else anymore, not you though, huh?" He leaned down in front of him so his face was directly in front of his, grin wide and playful. "You should come up and help me. Just because they agreed to follow me now doesn't mean they will later. They'll listen to you though... And I'm sure you're curious about the Locker... the end of the world... the other side, un..."
"The locker?" he replied curiously. His attention was fully snatched up by him now especially at the mentioning of this place. "Why are we going there?" Every one knew the story of Davy Jones, told to kids as bedtime stories which only produced nightmares to most. What kind of business could have they be going to the place of the damned? There was nothing worth while in there except for useless souls that are passing on, there was no treasure or great prize that could await them there. He was baffled on what was going on in that blonde's clearly not right head.
"Because we can," Deidara stated with a grin. "And no one's lived to tell about it and I want to see it, un." He smirked and dropped himself on the bed next to Itachi, stretching a little as he leaned back. Getting there was easy, getting back was hard. No one had done it before and Deidara wanted to be the one to do it. "Why? Scared?"
So was he really the type that sort out adventure as he was explaining that some pirates were all for instead of the nefarious side or was it all a rouse making him think that he was indeed just out for a journey. Either way getting answers from him that seemed truthful was a hard task from him so his word would be all he could go on for the time being.
Hearing the accusations that he was scared was ludicrous, something like the Locker wasn't enough to throw him off, stone faced outside as well as inside, leaning over closer to him smirking with a light chuckle especially thinking that he was underestimating him somewhat. "Nothing scares me" Itachi flatly stated making sure that he was aware of that fact.
"Oh, really?" Deidara asked, leaning forward to be very far in Itachi's personal bubble. "I might have to test that, un. No one can be scared of nothing. The only way that's possible is if you're dead or have something going on in your head, un!" He laughed a little and pushed Itachi over onto the bed behind him playfully, leaning back against the cushion his stomach made. "Even I'm scared of somethings, un." very few things but still some things.
Instant tensing at his body flopped back against the mattress fingers clawed into the sheets, twisting them hard between his fingers not liking this up close and personal approach that he was taking with him. This was not a fear, this was... he just didn't like it. Swallowing hard his dark eyes closed slowing his breathes down to a minimum pushing out the thoughts from his head wanting to leave it in a state of blankness so not a single thing passed by only the contact no matter how brief it was, enough to put him on edge. He didn't like being cornered, backed up without to escape, that Pirate Lord had done it to him, the young captain that hailed from a far off land had done this as well. While the blonde wasn't putting him in such a position still he couldn't stop the reactions to it, not scared just... "I have yet to find this thing that could bring me to such state but if you are wanting to test then by all means do what you want" As long as he wasn't trying to pursue any further actions of closeness.
Noting the tenseness in Itachi's body, he glanced back to look at him a long moment before pressing back closer to him. He certainly looked horrified to him. Near scared, but not quite. Turning slightly, he pushed Itachi down onto the bed with a grin, climbing on top of him to snuggle down against his back so his whole body was pressed against him. the young commander had a slight paranoia of closeness. No wonder he was stiff as a board and looking like he'd lost his reason for living just because a title had been taken away from him.
"I'm not a pillow!" he snapped really despising the way he was trying to lounge all over him. There was a perfectly good bed down underneath them and he was finding it more entertaining to lay on him which really was not comfortable, the blonde was bony. Wriggling from side to side he tried to knock him off, at least this wasn't so intimidating as being face to face it was indeed irritating especially since he looked like he would be as feather light but the rum must have been storing up in his legs because he certainly was retaining it somewhere.
If he was going for the scare tactic then he was seriously going the wrong direction about it.
Okay, not he just looked mad. Thinking a little, he leaned forward and nuzzled his face into his neck, nipping his skin in a slow hard bite. He wouldn't do anything to him, but it was fun to stick his hands under his shirt to slide up his back. "What's wrong?" he asked, flicking his hair out of his face as he leaned over to look at him. "Don't like human contact, un? But it feels good," he told him, demonstrating by sticking his hand under his stomach to search for the waist band of his pants. He wouldn't do anything to him, but the Uchiha was funny when he got so mad and flustered.
Fighting to squeeze his hands underneath himself proved hard with the added weight on top, one trying to swat him off the other clawing into sheets pulling deeper underneath his warm skin far enough to grab the wrist of the blonde. He did not have to explain himself to him on what he liked and didn't, he wasn't hating of all human contact only when he wasn't being attacked for it. He had found it to be quite pleasurable as of late and this was not at all. A grunt was the only reply he received, squirming and clambering up the bed to get out from underneath him freeing his leg enough to blindly kick hoping that it was a kneecap and not something that would leave him crippled, rolling around on the floor in pain because he was a man, he knew that pain and he wasn't that callous to want to inflict it on someone else no matter what the circumstance.
Deidara tensed up a little at the foot that came dangerously close to that tender area, but it missed and hit his thigh. Rubbing it slightly, he stood up off the bed and stretched his arms over head. "You're no fun, un," he told him, heading for the door. Picking up the map he'd left by the door he went out to go into his own self named quarters, laying the map out on the table to sit down and look it over. Tortuga first, then on towards Worlds End.
Panting gently after the semi struggled he had to put up to free himself from the clutches of the evil pirate, Itachi flipped back over onto his back sighing looking up at the roof listening to the complaints as he left. Did he really expect him to be something else? Yeah... no. Not going to happen.
Now that he had left to be on his own way, he could go back to just thinking about other things once again, covering his eyes with the arm shield everything into darkness. Worlds End huh? What kind of insanity had he gotten himself into.
