When the first words were spoken that he was leaving the port that he had been accustomed to with the past months with the Pirate Captain that was designated purchaser for the young boy, a few thoughts cycled through the slave's brain contemplating what it meant to be leaving the land to go out to see undoubtedly against the orders of the Master that put him up for the entertainment and hard labour. It had been many nights since he had spent curled up on the floor away from the 'brothers and sisters' just so they couldn't huddle against him to steal his body heat. Sai's frame was lacking in bulk and fat mass as it was so he didn't need them sucking off his life force. The other thing that the servant had found out that he was lacking in was the sea legs needed to be a man... teen of the ocean, first night out into deep waters of the unbridled ocean caused feeling inside that he had not felt before, nor remembered ever feeling from the constant churn of the minimal food in his stomach, the tilting of the horizon that would never stay still and the cross eyes effect when he tried to focus that only brought to the end of fishes being fed burly as well at staining the side of the boat with the contents of his stomach. Yo ho ho, the pirate life was not for him. Yo ho ho, there would be no bottles of rum at all; they caused nothing but excruciating headaches. Yo ho ho, the workhorse of the land was the life for him.
Weeks at sea without any real adjustment left Sai begging for the solid ground, finally in eyesight with the Port off in the distance. Immediate relief washed over the boy knowing that soon he would be able to settle his feet and cling to the closest tree to stop the constant swaying, hanging over the front of the ship that his owner had chose for the voyage leaning further and further watching the rocking movements of the land... losing his lunch once again. Just because the land look close in didn't really mean that it was with another day out one the ocean floor, watching the ant like island creep in closer and closer... and closer until finally harbouring the ship with the loud clanging of the anchors dropping, the moored rotten wooden boat to the shoreline teetered on splitting and spilling water into the vessel but land ahoy, Sai collapsed on the endless glittering untarnished sand of the bay of Trinidad hugging a small crab that tried to escape the insanely tight cling he had on the mound of sand. Land glorious land, how he would never leave you again.
The surrounds peaked his interest once he was able to climb back to his feet, wiping away the sand had been eaten from the furious hug looking around with wandering eyes at the strange new things that he had never laid eyes on before. Intense heat from the sun reflected of the white sand causing harsh glare and a few rebounds off people's backs only shoved back and called names from his incompetent nature so the better was the hang in the background to follow at a distance, one of the smaller out of the men dragged him through the on coming building by the arm carelessly tossed into a room commanding him to wait on sight until someone came and retrieved him. Blinking a few times, just like any servant would do that wanted to listen to the lead of their master, he stood dead still even after the heated wind blew past the window slamming the door shut, not a flinch out of him just standing and waiting. For a good twenty minutes he gazed long and hard at the door, most of it forgetting to blink to moisten the drying orbs from the scratching dust cause in the air, another ten and then he broke formation cracking open the door slowly peaking dark eyes around the corner looking for anyone around to see if they had forgotten about him.
No one in sight so he would have to find someone to make sure that he really was supposed to stand on the spot and not actually scrub the floor, wandering aimlessly through the hallways with a permanent darting head at all the new surrounds that he had never seen before, fixated on one with for only a brief moment with the next thing just newer than the next, letting artefacts guide his way out... straight out the door and further out into the lividly combinations of green moving that step away from the yellows, whites and blues of the beach front. By the time Sai stopped to contemplate exactly where he was the open space deteriorated into more confiding surroundings of the lush forest style area, still lots of sand but there were huge spiky pronged trees swaying happily rustling with the wind that he didn’t remembered. A step off the ball of his foot to move forward only to be knocked down to the ground with a loud thud, staying down flat on his back looking up at the sky wondered who was firing canon balls on him and there was another one coming straight down for... oh shit. The brown husky ball headed dead on target thwacking the slave dead on spot crushing his nose, tearing the cartilage inside that make his face wrinkle up with the horrible taste that resembled licking metal poles running down his throat. Yo ho ho... underneath a coconut palm tree was not the life for him either.
Another hour lost, swollen aggravated nose and bloody hands later, Sai accompanied by his new friend the coconut down to a cool stream peacefully bubbling away over the slippery rocks, just the perfect place for him to attend to his wounds and wash the thick layer of dry blood that congealed under his nose. Giving the world to the tropical fruit to stay put on the bed of grass after he dropped it down instead some carefully placing it like someone would who was actually having a conversation with a null object, he crept down to the river side kneeling in front of the running water, scooping up handfuls splashing the liquid over his face soothing the sting skin from the unrelenting heat of the sun.
Shimmer light reflected just under the water surface drawing onyx eyes to the attention to refracted movements swimming under the surface of the water. A school of small fish swam around the circling feet dipping into the water from the shuffled steps closer to the look, brave creatures they were not to scatter with the presence of a human but something else in the water suddenly got them spooked, darting away cowering for their safety. The huge newcomer inched towards the boy hovering around only to be beckoned closer with the wriggling splashes, grinning a mouthful of broad pointy sharp teeth, advancing closer, picking up speed, diving down and jumping at the bait offered towards it.
The brain reacted to the immense agony from the scaly critter taking a bit out of the digit that had been lost up to the knuckle inside the wide mouth of the piranha, he however did not follow the reactions that the muscle was telling him, strolling over to a rock and picking up the coconut, holding it high above his finger and dropping it into the aquatic vertebrate sending the flounder flopping around minus the snack in its mouth gasping from the oxygen in its gills. That one too Sai didn’t like leaving both the fruit and the fish behind trailing back towards Ai Tavern in case there was something for him to do now. Yo ho ho... he was almost fish food.
One step back onto the main grounds saw the slave captured once again by the sturdy arms around his chest, carrying him like a lifeless rag doll back into the quarters he had been originally and plopped down onto the floor with the firm warning to stay put once again. This time he was going to obey, standing rigid waiting not knowing what to do looking back at the large man with puppy dog eyes and a pout showing that without orders he was lost.
“There is some stuff for you to read over there and drawing... things” He was a pirate, he had limited vocabulary. “Get some sleep” Showed the final point at the bed, the door once again closed leaving him be.
If the teenager knew how to exclaim overwhelming emotions about receiving drawing tool he might have, except picking up the items holding them to his chest like the long lost friend that he hadn’t seen in a thousand moons, the one pleasure in his life had return to him but the exhaustion of the day had taken the toll so sleep was needed. Placing them softly on the ground taking extreme caution not to damage, Sai stood back up and crossed his arms examining the soft mattress in front of him not too sure what to do about that. He knew what a bed was...
Flopping down face first his face smothered in the soft pillows, legs drew up to a kneeling position spreading apart knees bent outwards and his back end reared up high in the most uncomfortable arched back resembling the shape of an acute triangle. He stayed in that position for a while contemplating if this was how is was supposed to go, the only time he was treated to the luxury of a warm bed was when someone was genuflected behind him, rubbing his face against the silky sheets while doing strange things to his backside... but he was the only one around. Maybe they would be joining him later so he better not tarnish the bed yet, instead the raven-haired boy climbed back to his feet with the blankets, pillows and art tools in hand, scurrying to the corner of the room making a mount of comfort from the bed linen, laying down in the most snug he had never been granted to sleep. Knees drawn up high against his chest, hugging his legs to retain heat despise the dense temperature in the air, Sai made himself comfortable drifting away into a light slumber to think about what would come tomorrow. Yo ho ho, the life of a slave for him.
