Or maybe it was her appearance that was shocking.
It had been so long that she wasn’t expecting an anomaly to open up right in front of her while she was fighting with a terror bird. (And by fighting, she meant trying to stay out of range of its beak until it got tired so that she could stab it with her spear.)
She didn’t even think twice before she was running through the anomaly. Though, had she thought about it, she might have warned them that she was coming through and that her weapon wasn’t going to be used on those that might be on the other side of the anomaly.
There was just enough time for her to recognize Becker and Danny before someone she had never seen was yelling at her. She tried to identify herself, but it had been so long since she had spoken that she wasn’t able to think of the words fast enough and when the hand holding her spear came up, well, she could understand much later why she might have been seen as a threat.
She heard Becker yell in anger and Danny start moving at the same time something hit her in the chest. The shock went through her body and she was on the ground, trying to curl up in a ball from the pain she was feeling.
She was pretty sure she heard a fight happening even as arms that she hadn’t felt in so long were lifting her up from the ground.
“Abby, my Abby girl.” He breathed, holding her head to his so that she could hear him. “Abby my girl.”
“Becker.” It sounded strange to hear his name from her lips after so long, but it also seemed right that it was the first thing she said after arriving home finally. “Becker.”
At that moment, she didn’t care what was happening around her, only that she was finally home where she belonged. She let her eyes fall closed and her last conscious thought was that Becker had her.
