The Long Way Home

Dean and I are at a Holiday Inn Express in Medford, OR. It's very early in the morning (like, 5:40ish), and I can't sleep because the hotel pillows are too flat, so I can't breathe very well when I lay down. I feel like I'm choking when that happens, maybe for tomorrow I'll have Dean look for my regular pillows in the back of the moving van or something. It could be much worse, but it still sucks a nut.

Last night we stayed in Bakersfield, CA. Everyone kept telling me it was the asshole of California, and now I understand why. When we went outside in the morning, it smelled like urine. Everywhere.  W.T.F. So we gassed up and headed North. After you reach Sacramento, the drive is really beautiful, we both actually enjoyed it. Dean is wonderful, he drove the whole way (12 or so hours) and will do so again today until we arrive in Lynnwood, WA (N. of Seattle).

We have nine hours of driving today. The front left tire on the Budget truck is all fucked up, so they are coming to change it out at 8 and then we'll be on our way.

We've had to sneak Darwin into the hotels for the last couple of nights, as each one of them has had big signs that say "No Pets Allowed In Hotel." What do they want us to do? Leave her in the car?  Uh, no. Not happening. So we put her in my suitcase (which has plenty of room for her) and take her up to whichever room we're staying in. She's been really well behaved for the entire trip, sitting on my lap or sleeping under my seat without making any noise. The only time I've seen her meow is when we leave the car for a minute (e.g. at gas stations) because she doesn't like being left alone in strange places.

We have to meet Sherry (the property manager person) at 10:15 tomorrow morning at our duplex. I'm so excited! I don't know if I'll be able to sleep later tonight!

Oh yeah, wish me luck, I've landed two interviews. One at Hertz Rental Car (Manager) and the other (more exciting) temporary Full Time Faculty (HISTORY!) for the fall quarter at a community college in WA.
