History:
http://saiyuki.wikia.com/wiki/Cho_HakkaiPersonality: Hakkai is kind, and gentle by nature. To most, he a nice guy who’s always smiling. By habit he is polite to the public and always thinks on a positive note even when the situation seems anything but good. Because of his caring tone of voice it’s hard to tell whether or not he’s being sarcastic. This also causes confusion with other things like his opinion or jokes.
He’s considered to be very sociable and tends to handle the negotiating where others would fall short or flat out rejected. Hakkai turns heavy situations into light ones, or takes the pressure off for others when possible. His light-hearted trait helps others feel less stressed or even kid around themselves.
One of Hakkai’s favorite things is alcohol, and though it’s not obvious. Since his nature is passive and generally happy, he doesn’t rely on alcohol to cheer him up when he’s feeling down. It’s a type of device he would normally use to socialize with others and have a good time. Along with his unhealthy hobbies is gambling. While he’s not as good some of his companions, he’s not terrible at it either. He usually gambles with card games and is passive about whether he wins or loses. Hakkai only plays for fun.
Hakkai loves children. He’s very good around them as a teacher, and a parent. He has more than enough patience to deal with the ‘intellectually impaired’. Due to his love of children, he teaches slowly and thoughtfully to those around him who don’t understand. He’s usually not quick to judge when it comes to level of intelligence with another.
He doesn’t like it when people or other demonic beings harms or threatens the ones he cares about. Commonly Hakkai is in a good mood and not easy to anger, but when he becomes irritated or mad it’s very obvious. Because he’s almost always happy, it comes as a shock when that shifts a complete 180. When angered, he takes things very seriously and his threats become more like promises. He becomes like this when he’s convince his friends are in danger as well. Going to any lengths to protect them even if it means killing himself. Showing how much he devotion he has for those he cares for.
As a youkai, Hakkai is subjected to wearing power limiters to restrain he demonic powers. Seldom does he remove them from his ear, and only does it when he absolutely has to and there’s no other option left for him to use. This is his ultimate last resort and it takes a lot for him to be pressured into the decision of using it.
Hakkai is sensitive to crying women who remind him of his (older sister) and former lover. He is quick to make hasty choices about what he does when it comes to reminders of his past. Causing him to be a little reckless and risk self-endangerment. Due to his cold past, Hakkai almost never mentions anything about it, and goes about as if it never existed. People are lucky if does talk about. Generally Hakkai uses his mistakes in life to try and influence others to not make the same. He views his scar as an opportunity to teach others that there’s always more than one options.
Strengths:
Physical: Hakkai clearly has some formal training in martial arts and can directly challenge someone in hand to hand combat. He also posses the ability to manipulate his chi in a versatile way. Collecting his chi into balls he can hurl them as his enemies for a range attack, or he can warp his chi into that of a barrier and block him from weaker attacks. Allowing him both offensive and defensive alternatives. Occasionally the content of light that emits from his chi is enough to blind his enemies when attacking.
When his power limiters are removed, his power and speed increased intensely. Even though he’s not as strong as the great sage, he’s strong enough to be a challenge and out powers most other demons. The green vines that mark his body in his full demon form can be manipulated as a type of binding. It can travel on surfaces and catch his prey.
He can also use his chi energy for healing. He can close wounds and slow bleeding. It’s a time consuming process that he puts a lot of care into to ensure that the person he’s tending to makes it. When devoted enough he can heal many wounds in one sitting.
For unexplained reasons, Hakkai is excellent at holding his alcohol. He can consume any amount of hard liquor and not get drunk. He hardly even gets a full on buzz. Proving that his body is immune to alcohol poisoning.
Mental/Emotional: Hakkai is level-headed and well rounded. He’s not one to fall into traps as easily as others. When in an unfamiliar terrain that feels unsafe in he is weary of his surroundings, and takes things in strides. It’s not easy to affect him emotionally since he keeps most of his emotions in check and makes logical decisions based on the situation. If possible, he will try and negotiate his way around a fight to avoid any unnecessary causalities. If forced into a fight he will go easy until he’s convinced there’s no reaching them.
Hakkai is caring and smart. He’s very sociable and gets along with a lot of people. Giving him social links others may not usually form. Unlike his companions, he is more forgiving and is willing to give others a chance if he finds that they have potential.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Hakkai’s left eye is prosthetic. His vision isn’t as well as it could be because of it. While he is strong, he’s not powerful, if someone physically stronger than him challenges him, he is unlikely to fight in close combat.
If Hakkai uses too much of his spiritual chi energy he becomes nauseated and weak. If he continues to use his energy when he’s weak he passes out from exhaustion. His period of unconsciousness varies depending on how much energy he used in what amount of time. Sometimes it can render him useless for a couple days until he re-cooperates his energy.
Healing wounds drains his energy the most when the wounds are large and deep. It takes constant concentration and energy to close wounds.
Mental/Emotional: Women who remind him of his lover makes him susceptible to things he wouldn’t normally subject to. He becomes reckless and is an easier target to hit. He always puts others before himself so he’s quick to take a hit, leaving him vulnerable to many things.
He becomes sensitive when he sees other’s struggling and eager to help them if he can. Sometimes this makes him fall into traps. If someone is in trouble and they can’t save their own being. Hakkai will jump in and save them. Usually resulting to him obtaining injuries in the process which he normally never regrets. His past corners him into self-punishing acts like this as if to atone for his sins in the past.

First Person:
Q&A please~!
1. Describe what you might call a good day.
[To him a good day could mean various things. He chuckled]
Well I guess you could say surviving would make a good day.
2. What's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Nicest?[He froze in thought.] I might have not been willing at the time, but when Gojyo saved my life. I was so quick to throw it away that night. He also gave me a new light to see things with. [Effortless smile.]
3. Are you a brave person? Do you face your fears or run away from them?
I'm done running away from my fears. From now on I confront them.
4. Describe something you like to do for fun.
[For fun? That's easy.] I enjoy playing Majong with my friends. The game isn't very complicated, and it passes the time adequately.
5. How would you describe yourself?
I consider myself to be friendly. Sometimes I'm too friendly. I don't like to start fights, and I try to avoid them when possible. My friends mean the world to me, and I just don't think I could bear to lose them. I like to turn sticky situations into light ones. Stressing over things isn't good, and exhausting. I hold some intelligence as well. One of my strongest traits would be patience.
Third Person: His emerald green hues gazed about the surroundings that encircled him. The dark energy that once lingered around him from the world he was familiar with was no longer there. Did that mean things had reverted back to normal? No. That couldn’t have been it, this was a new place, and Hakkai knew that. Slowly he took small strides, the soles of his shoes pressing against the patted grassy floor beneath him. As if out of habit, his hand reached up toward his neck to stroke what wasn’t there. The youkai’s beloved miniature dragon was nowhere to be found on his shoulder. He smiled light-heartily in some defeat before talking to himself.
“Oh my, I really did it this time.”
He inhaled a breath full of air before releasing it into a long, drawn out, silent sigh. There was no one around for miles. His companions were nowhere to be found and he could no longer feel their energy drawing out from their bodies. It gave him an unsettling feeling, and there was nothing he could do about it. With that in mind, every step he took, he took cautiously. Ready to dodge anything that might strike at him with intent to kill. After a few minutes passed he came to a complete stop where there was a fork in the undefined road.
It was foolish to say if he would encounter his companions again anytime soon. Or if he would ever meet them again. For all he knew they could have been dead, but Hakkai refused to think like that. He kept some sign of hope regarding the well being of his friends. The fork in the road was nothing more than a small decision he wouldn’t regret later. After some minutes of thought he shifted toward the left and began to move forward. The youkai cracked a soft smile as he went in a direction where he had no idea what the destination might be. He never looked back, and he never regretted the decision.
