I...really should have had this done a long time ago, but I took kind of a hiatus from the Internet and fandom for a while, so, Ruka, kindly forgive my tardiness? Well, at any rate, I STARTED it, got stuck somewhere around the middle, and said to hell with it back then due to my normal bitchy frustrated-ness. (*laugh*) Hopefully, since I don't feel ( Read more... )

So good, so good, so good. I love that this is more a treatise on Gokudera with bonus Tsuna-love - the romantic bits are more plausible because of the depth of the rest of the characterisation, and also because I think the one thing I like in pairing fic is everyone else. Canon is so 'I ♥ MY FAMIGLIA' that it feels wrong when a fic has heavy emphasis on just two people.

And you mention everyone! Even dearly departed Mum. I like the way you approach how he feels about her - because what, after all, could he really think about someone he last saw when he was three? Your pre-series Gokudera steals my heart all around, because there's that bit of woobie coming through the grrr I'm tough exterior. But maybe, the only reason he did it that way was because he was too chicken to just go up and say hello. - D'aaaww.

"You should have tried harder, at killing him. Then the two of you wouldn't be so disappointingly soft."
O, Reborn. Such a jerk.

The Morning-After-The-Night-Before conversation is amazing. Yamamoto saying he doesn't have the imagination to think of anyone else haha, and Gokudera's first and last apology and Yamamotooooo. The moment is uncompromisingly painful and perfect for them, in that situation. Every word of it.

"I think you should just keep going the way that you are," Yamamoto says, candidly, but of course Gokudera doesn't listen.
"If you truly love him, Hayato," his sister says, in one of her rare familial cameos, shooting the baseball idiot needles out of the corner of her eyes, "then nothing else but love should matter."
And though he wishes more than anything that he hadn't, he vomits all over her shoes, regardless.
That is so cute in a HAHAHAHA GOKUDERA, YOU SUCK way. Really cute. The phrase "rare familial cameo" describes exactly the way Bianchi had of popping out of nowhere in the Daily Life arc.

Here's a list of all the lines that make me go WAAAAAHH because there are a lot of them:
- In ten years, one of those wishes will come true. But by then, he'll have discovered what it is that he actually wants, and all of it will mean naught.
- That's the happiest memory of his life.
- Nine years and nine months later, he will search desperately for the answer to that question.
And dodge the answer by rewriting the future.
Damned TYL arc. ;______________; You have a knack for making words twist.

Particularly with "Are you my father?" Gokudera blurts out, without thinking. which is a SUCKERPUNCH. It's easy to forget that Shamal is important to Gokudera but that solidified it for me, because it almost seems like something that might happen, should Gokudera ever be in a desperate enough state.

The bit with regards to Haru's reply to Gokudera feels a little out of place. She doesn't sound like a real person speaking. It's too wise and easily articulated - I think Haru might say something like that, but not in that way. All the rest of the dialogue works for the characters, so it's jarring.

On his side, or at his feet?
The first makes him sigh, with pleasure, but it's the second that has him coming, hard, all over his hand.
The whole fic, but this bit in particular makes me want to write a letter. Dear Gokudera: Get some self-esteem. Immediately. I mean, it's hot, but damn, boy!

The numbered structure is neat; a plain but awesome way to show that Tsuna is fundamental to Gokudera. And the ending suits the fic, as it's all about questioning and wavering between different kinds of relationships; having it up in the air works. On the whole, this is SO GOOD and I MAY HAVE EXPLODED WITH LOVE. Seriously.

PS a MukuTsuna I liked: In Between by QuestofDreams. There's also pineappletuna for exploring.

PPS: ... gosh, sorry for all the spazzing. It tends to happen when I find that a fic is far, far better than I was prepared for.
