Dear Diary,
I feel as though there is so much I have not updated on... that I am obligated to update on! I'll attempt to do it as quickly and as efficiently as possible:
- I have a cell phone again and my number is the same. Feel free to call whenever.
- My 21st Birthday Extravaganza/Chicago Pride Weekend was a BLAST. Thanks to Thang, Derek and all of my friends involved. It was truly a memorable experience. I still haven't fully adjusted to being 100% legal.
- So I didn't get the HRC Internship this fall. I'm not too disappointed, actually. I've had some amazing job offers here in IC that may prove to be fruitful anyway. Though it would have been exciting...
- I got a B in Spanish II and I'm very happy about it. It was a lot of work, but I feel like I learned more spanish in the past 6 weeks than I learned 2 years in high school. Gracias Senorita Araceli Lopez Rivera!
- I'm very disappointed in our gubernatorial candidates for this fall. That's all I have to say about that.
- UISG has certainly had its ups and downs as of late. I'm pretty much in love with everyone in the administration this year, including many of the senators. I've become very close friends with our PR Executive, Annalisa Hoeft. She's pretty remarkable and has an infectious laugh. I just wish all of the division discussions between the undergrads and grads/professional students would end because the animosity and tension is getting to be too much.
- I've been dating a pre-med student named Justin for awhile now and I think it's actually going pretty well. We are both pretty busy people and don't see too much of each other, but when we do, we seem to fit. I'm not sure if this will withstand the beginning of fall semester or not, but for now, its comfortable.
- I spent that last several days at home in Wisconsin. Everytime I feel as though I'm pushing my family a bit more in regards to my sexual orientation and they are responding nicely. They've become quite comfortable with most aspects of it. Except for my soon to be a senior in high school brother. We've grown very distant and according to his girlfriend (who I absolutely love), he gets a lot of shit for my gayness from people at school. Hopefully when he grows up and gets out of Seneca, WI, he'll be ok. For now, I worry about him and continue to ponder what I can do to make the situation better.
- Lecture Committee has backed out of co-sponsoring with the GLBTAU for the Queer Iowa Student Conference, leaving us without a keynote speaker at the moment. I have spent the last several days making phone calls and attempting to locate funding and a speaker myself. I'm absolutely furious with Lecture Committee for doing this at the last minute, but I suppose that's the politics we have to deal with. On the bright side, we have some really cool potential speakers and opportunities to make the conference even better than I expected. And I've learned so much about booking talent, I think I might open my own talent agency/management company in 48 IMU.
Well... I think that's everything I have to update on at this time. I'm bartending upstairs tonight, so if you are by chance downtown, feel free to stop in and say HI! I'd love to see you.
Destroying the Sanctity of Marriage,
-Mark*Anthony
