lets see I didnt update last week soooo
Monday 2/9
everyone was sick...Alvin had gout, Corey left when no one else was there, Fred was just gone...I stayed at the office and studied all day
Tuesday 2/10
Alvin still had gout, Corey, Fred and I went to SR 44 / SR 42 to place nail spikes across SR 44 while other crews did soil testing underneath the road. We were seeing how far the new lanes had sunk compared to the rest of the road. I actually got to see people using shit from Dr. Davidson's soil classes to collect samples under the roadway.
Fred's car got repoed when we got back to the office
Wednesday 2/11
Alvin was back, goutless, Fred didn't come because of his car. We went to SR 46 again and Alvin started drawing up the topo
Thursday 2/12
same thing, but with Fred...we got done way too early, so they took a looong way home, stopping at their favorite fishing spots to check them out
Monday 2/16
We started out doing more topo and in the afternoon we went down 46 to find the survey crew from Leesburg. I got dropped off there to watch them use the data collector to document points along the road and R/W
Tuesday 2/17
We traversed a bit of SR 46 starting at CR 435 and working about 10 turning points down the road
Wednesday 2/18
In the morning we went out to 15A and staked R/W for some property owners so they could move their fences to their correct property boundaries. In the afternoon we continued the traversing on SR 46
Thursday 2/19
Corey and I went out with Berkley and his crew to find monumentation and section corners. I ripped my jeans on a barb wire fence that we had to cross, so flapping around all day was cool. I got to use a machette to cut line, which is much better than doing topo drawings.
All in all...its good being outside, but some of this shit is straight boring as hell...And yeah, calculations are done in the truck or on the hood of the truck, but goddamn Grady Tuell and his jackass comments about how you need to know how to perform matricies in your calculator for those days. I only saw some engineers on that one Tuesday, and even though they were materials and geotech guys, no one was doing complex calculations right there. If I cared enough, I'd write good old Grady a condescending email about his views of what happens out in the field and what actually happens.
I guess I'm supposed to being working with the GPS guys sometime and I'm supposed to see what goes on in the office sometime, I don't know when this will all happen, I'm about to start my 4th week and no one has given me a damn schedule for this unit yet.
