Hey everyone! I'm in Japan right now, typing on a Japan computer. Holy crap are their keyboards confusing! Right now im at Rissho University in Tokyo. Its currently 2pm monday here, and I'm thirteen hours at head of all you people on the east coast. I arrived last saturday in Japan. Saturday night I was shown to my mansion where Rissho is keeping us. That's right, I'm sleeping in a MANSION! lol, of course the joke is that mansion is the japanese word for apartment! I'm in a regular japanese apartment building where Rissho rents out a few rooms. They're a one bedroom apartment for approximately 600 dollars a month, and they're pretty good size too. I must admit that I've seen smaller one bedroom apartments in portland for more money. I actually thought it would be more expensive since it was tokyo. Anyways I am currently staying at Rissho University Osaki Campus in Shingawa ku tokyo ken japan. Anyways, Saturday night was spent exploring the Osaki area, where there are quite a few places to play Pachinko which is a type of gambling here.
Sunday was our free day, so we spent it walking around. We also got to see a sword museum with some of the finest swords in the world. It was interesting but I couldnt understand much of it because all the signs for the swords were in Japanese. After that we got to go see Tokyo Tower, which the largest tower in the world, larger than even the Eiffel tower. It does look a lot like the Eiffel tower but that was because it was modeled after it. Ironically enough, even though tokyo tower is larger it is actually lighter than the Eiffel tower. At the base of the tower that had a whole bunch of shops and museums. I went into a holograph musuem, and trick art galary. I wanted to see the amusement park and the aquariam there too, but Joe and Mat (the other USM delegates) werent interested. We also got to go up to the top of the tower which was really awesome. I got some great pictures of the surrounding area. On a clear day its possible to see mount fuji, but yesterday it was cloudy so we couldnt see it. We also had a three japanese students with us in order to help us navigate japan. There was Mika (20, girl, economic major) Norubu (20, male, economic major) and hyuji (21, male, economic major). They also took us for food and to a print shop. A print shop is kinda like a photobooth that you seen in the mall, except you can draw all over it and write stuff on it before it prints out to make it cute. Oddly enough, guys are into this here, even though we would consider it a super girly cute type thing to do. It was a ton of fun.
Today (monday), today we got a tour around Rissho University for the Osaki campus. We also had our first Japanese class which was very basic. I didnt really learn a whole lot, but I did learn that you can use the word doomo in many more ways than I previously knew. Anyways, I have to now head out to get a cellphone, and later I will be meeting the school president and going a party.
Cheers!
