Free tickets = only reason I would see Transformers 2 in theaters

Because of a promotion with men's clothing purchases over $50 at Kmart, I came into possession of two free tickets to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Having moderately liked the first more than I expected, I was looking somewhat forward to at least having the chance to see the spectacle of big robot fighting on the big screen, although without free tickets, I otherwise would have just waited to see it on video. I went to see Transformers 2 yesterday afternoon.

My overall impression of it. Bleh. I could not relate with the characters at all. I couldn't really keep track of what any but the main autobots and decepticons were called. The acting was generally pretty crappy. It was waaay too long. There was a surprisingly large amount of shock-humor that felt kind of wildly out of place, although in hind-sight, I think that the humor parts are what I liked most in the movie compared to everything else. Oh, and I probably got more enjoyment over Sam being pinned down by Megatron than was ever intended.

This is pretty much the most accurate review there is for this movie and explains its badness much better than I ever could. Granted, I haven't really sought out any other reviews for it. I'd warn that the review contains spoilers, but as the review itself says, "Oh, and I would warn you that there'll be spoilers in this review - except that, really, since I still have no idea what actually happened in this movie, I'm not sure how much I can spoil it."

It truly saddens me that this turd of a movie has already made $125 million in its first 3 days compared to Star Trek's $75 million opening weekend, although it doesn't surprise me considering how well the first Transformers did in spite of it not being that great. Cool-looking transforming robots and attractive people seems to be all it takes to attract the general masses.
