So there is this video that's going around on the Internet. Perhaps you've seen it (and if you haven't, I advise you to watch it first:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=S3X1K93ff5I).
Now, assuming you've watched it, or heard about it or are somewhat familiar with it, I am going to continue on what will be a tirade, yes tirade, against it and what it means.
It's basic message is that Americans are stupid. It sarcastically makes this point clear in the beginning and then, the whole video is spent proving that statement using interviews with Americans.
This video has me pissed. Need I say why? How biased can a video get? Honestly. I do think that it's sad that some people didn't know the answers to those questions but the entire video has the audacity to judge an entire country based on the answers of at most, twenty Americans.
And people actually believed it! I see similar comments on forums, on Youtube and such, saying things like "haha no wonder America is such a fucked up country i bet they can't even count to ten" or "america is a country of losers". There was this particular comment on Youtube that just got to me. I shall quote all of it: They're probably all from California. As we ALL know, only the true morons come from California. Beautiful state, ignorant people... The ellipses at the end was written by the user; I cut nothing out. WTF.
I think the people who watched the video and agreed with it are the real idiots. People who cannot realize that every country has its fair share of morons are morons themselves. Just because some anti-liberal news network from Australia (it came from CNNNN) decided to exploit the idiots of America doesn't make us an uneducated country.
Though that video of that South Carolina beauty pageant winner really doesn't help the cause, does it? It doesn't matter! Why are people so stupid? Why are people so quick to jump on the 'Americans are stupid' bandwagon? I'm sick of all this animosity towards this country. I'm sick of defending this country to ignorant foreigners who think they are so much better than us just because they aren't from the US.
Why can't any of those people who ask those questions in the videos ever ask people like me? Like it would matter. When we get questions right, they'd just cut us from the video in the editing. And then, some maniac with an overlarge ego might come and say that I'm not a "true American" because I'm Indian.
They manipulate the facts and distort the truth.
The truth? This world is filled with idiots, no matter what country they are from. One one side, you have several 'typical' Americans acting stupid and on the other, you have several self-righteous Europeans bashing Americans based on videos as these.
Look, it's a war for idiots.
I feel like walking in between them both and slapping them all in their faces.
What the fuck, I posted that on September 11th, not the 12th. Stupid LJ.
