So, the stats for California (which I care about):
Governor:
Schwarzennegar (R) won over Phil Angelides (D)
My House Rep:
Pete Start (D) re-elected. Duh.
and that one proposition 85 or something that says that parents must be notified before 48 hours if a minor was to get an abortion was rejectedi.
YES!
GO LIBERALS.
And can you believe? ALL of the Bay Area's reps in the House are Democrats.
Wow. I love Fremont sometimes.
OMG.
AND DEMOCRATS WON CONTROL OF THE HOUSE. w00t!
Why does it matter? It matters because in less than a year, I am going to be living on my own. I expect the economy to be well if I'm going to have to stay by myself and essentially support myself. It's time to start thinking about this. Yes.
I totally had a 'moment' today.
I was walking by the library and I saw this open door. On the door, I saw "Voter's Guide 2006" and when I looked inside the room, I saw the polling booths...people were actually voting inside.
I don't know why this moved me so. Maybe it's because here, I saw living proof that I am not the only one who cares.
And when I came back outside from the library three hours later, the polling was still open. And there was this big truck that said 'North American' on it. People were piling up the voting information in it. And then, it hit me:
People voted. And their votes were going in that truck to some place, to be counted.
And their counted votes could affect Congress.
All of a sudden, I actually a part of this country.
I know it's weird, but it's true. September 11th happened and this entire state was disconnected. It's like California isn't part of America at all. We're living in our own world here; the world of Laguna Beach, Hollywood, movie stars, college, etc. Washington D.C. is far away, it's impersonal. And it's only California, because we're the only major state on the west coast. Yeah, there's Texas. But Texas has a connection with D.C. They have Bush. We? We have nothing of importance.
Or so I thought before.
But when I saw the voting, the elaborate system of democracy totally hit me. We can control it. We have the power. We have the power. Not them. US.
Listen to me.
You'd think I'm in love with poli-sci.
In truth, I kind of am. :).
