This fic has a special place in my heart: back last December, I attempted to write this for 31_days. It failed, because this thing was being a pain in the ass and WOULDN'T BE WRITTEN. I half want to call this fic YOU'RE FINALLY DONE. It'd almost fit, too.

Good thing the prompt also fit a 30kisses prompt - which this is by the way.

"Come in," Kakashi said.

Sasuke opened the bedroom door and walked in the room. Kakashi was sitting on the bed, his faced buried in a book. He hadn't even bothered looking up; or if he did, he went right back to his book before Sasuke opened the door.

Sasuke stood by the door and waited.

"You should be in bed," Kakashi said, finally, after he had turned three pages.

"I'm too old for bed times," Sasuke snapped.

"You're too old to sleep?" Kakashi asked.

Sasuke took a few steps towards the bed, and said, "No. I just don't want to sleep right now."

Kakashi made a noncommittal noise behind his book.

Sasuke glared at Kakashi, or rather, the book that was in front of his face. Last night, Kakashi just silently lifted up the blankets and rested one hand on Sasuke's hip after he crawled under the covers and pressed against his former teacher.

In fact, he'd been doing that every night since Sasuke was put under his care and Sasuke found himself knocking on Kakashi's door.

Kakashi made no outward note of Sasuke's behavior.

"Nightmares," Sasuke suddenly blurted. It was okay that he told Kakashi. After all, it was Kakashi's fingers that ran through his hair after Sasuke woke up, shivering, in the middle of the night.

"They're getting worse," Kakashi said, lowering his book and lifting up his blanket. Sasuke quickly crawled under them, not because he was eager, but because Kakashi may change his mind. And an old feeling told him he would as he buried his face in Kakashi's neck, and Kakashi rested his hand on Sasuke's hip, his thumb brushing against skin under his shirt.

"You're kicking more and harder," Kakashi continued when Sasuke didn't say anything.

Sasuke could hear Kakashi's heart beating, and he needed that knowledge before pushing away.

Sasuke was only able to move a few inches before Kakashi quickly turned him over on his back, straddled him, and pinned his wrists to the headboard.

Sasuke glared daggers at him, but Kakashi ignored him as he adjusted Sasuke's wrists so he could keep them pinned with one hand and then untwisted the blanket from around his hips and Sasuke's legs.

Kakashi then gave him a long, studying look.

Sasuke was only able to meet that look for a few minutes before he turned away. The look was bordering on disappointment and he was feeling childish enough, having to sleep next to a parental figure to curb his nightmares some.

Kakashi let go of his wrists and carefully grabbed Sasuke's chin. Lifting up Sasuke's head, and twisting his head so Sasuke had to face him and disappointed look, he began to scold, "You can't keep running away."

"I won't come in here anymore," Sasuke muttered, lowering his eyes.

Kakashi jerked up Sasuke's head, forcing Sasuke to look into Kakashi's eyes. He squirmed slightly at what he saw. "What are you dreaming about?"

Wishing Kakashi's hands were pinning Sasuke's wrists instead of holding his face, very aware of the way Kakashi was sitting in his hips, forcing Sasuke to look at Kakashi's face, and with no desire to talk, Sasuke knocked Kakashi's hands away from his face, leaned up and pressed his lips on Kakashi's.

Kakashi allowed this.

"That wasn't an answer," Kakashi said when Sasuke pulled away, heart racing and body pulsing.

Sasuke let out a frustrated noise before reaching over to Kakashi's face, his fingers clenching the edge of Kakashi's mask. He didn't get to move the mask at all before Kakashi caught both of Sasuke's wrists in his hands and squeezed.

Sasuke flinched.

Perhaps, deeming that was enough punishment, Kakashi said no more on Sasuke attempting to remove his mask and loosened his grip. Then, he said, "Sasuke, answer me."

"Stop doing that," Sasuke said, trying to keep his voice under control. He wasn't twelve anymore. Kakashi didn't have him bound to a tree. And, besides, Itachi was dead. Kakashi holding his wrists wasn't exactly making it easier, but he managed.

"Doing what?" Kakashi indulged his former student.

Sasuke glared at him. "Don't treat me like a child."

"I suggest you stop acting like one, then," Kakashi said.

Sasuke turned away. "You're the one who lets me sleep here." And you didn't stop me from kissing you the first time.

"If that's what you think I mean then you're more of a child than I originally thought," Kakashi said mildly before rolling off of Sasuke.

Sasuke grabbed a handful of Kakashi's shirt and pulled Kakashi back on top of him. "Kakashi..."

Kakashi didn't wait long, but it was too long, long enough for Sasuke's skin to tighten, before adjusting himself to straddle Sasuke's hips again. Sasuke felt himself relax, some of the tension from before, melting away. Although, he could sense another kind building between them.

"Are you going to talk?" Kakashi asked, a warning tone lacing his voice.

Sasuke said nothing; Kakashi wasn't going to be able to get what he wanted from Sasuke as easily as he did before.

"Ahh," Kakashi said, "you want to do it like that."

Sasuke shot his former teach a confused look. His unspoken question was answered soon enough, though. Kakashi took both of Sasuke's wrists in his hands and squeezed them until Sasuke bit back a whimper and dug his nails into his palms.

Gently rubbing Sasuke wrists with his thumbs, Kakashi said calmly and dangerously, "I will tell you once more, answer my question."

"If I don't?"

Kakashi didn't even bother tightening his grip or saying a word. He just leveled Sasuke with a hard look and Sasuke found himself turning away from Kakashi once again. It was unfair that Kakashi still has this kind of control over Sasuke.

Although, if he were to think about it, Sasuke would find he didn't mind too much. He had long since trusted Kakashi with that control, so much that he never even tried to grasp it back.

"The dreams aren't any different," Sasuke said, knowing Kakashi knew what kind of dreams Sasuke was talking about. "I've had them for so long."

Kakashi let go of one of Sasuke's wrists and gently guided Sasuke's face so that he was facing the older man.

"Why does it," Sasuke closed his eyes tightly, finding himself unable to finish his sentence. "Why is it more?" Before Kakashi could say anything, he finished with, "Shouldn't it lessen?"

The look in Kakashi's eye turned fond. "Sometimes I forget how little you understand, despite your experience and strength." He traced his index finger across Sasuke's face, a gesture of tender affection. "Accomplishing a type of goal that you had is just part of the battle, the easy part."

Sasuke wasn't sure if that was possible; knocking out Sakura and fighting Naruto had just been the start of sacrifices to get to his brother.

"You allow yourself to care for your companions now," Kakashi said, halting the gentle movements on Sasuke's face; Sasuke wanted Kakashi to kiss him. "Everything is much harder when you've got something to protect."

"Then what's the point?" Sasuke asked, frustrated, and feeling emptier than ever.

"Because it makes everything worth it," Kakashi said.

"I killed more people when I was protecting them," Sasuke still couldn't call his comrades, friends; least of all Naruto and Sakura, neither of them were ever his friends, they were always something more, they still were, "before, I only wanted power. It doesn't make sense."

"You've got a reason to kill," Kakashi said.

"I only wanted death then," Sasuke said harshly, but it was directed towards himself.

"Then why didn't you kill more?" Kakashi said.

"There would have been no point," Sasuke said. "Why would I measure my powers against something under my feet?"

"Surely it would have made working under Orochimaru easier to kill a few useless people," Kakashi said as Sasuke set his hand on the other's wrist, willing him not stop touching Sasuke. "Why didn't you get rid of them for that reason?"

"That's his way," Sasuke said, without thinking, "not mine."

"That matters to you," Kakashi said.

His mother's voice suddenly rang through his mind: Sasuke-kun is Sasuke-kun.

"Yes," Sasuke admitted, and then quickly changed the subject, unable to continue with his ghosts starting to show up, with: "the kiss just before."

Kakashi expression became unreadable. "What about it?"

Kakashi was treating it lightly, he was giving Sasuke an escape. But Sasuke didn't want that, he wanted Kakashi to kiss him, roughly and with the same type of dominance he used to tie up or pin Sasuke down effortlessly. Sasuke spread his legs apart slightly, although he wasn't sure why.

He leaned into Kakashi's fingers on his face and said, "I want to do it again."

"Then you probably shouldn't say anything," Kakashi said like it was a retort.

Sasuke flushed slightly. "Not exactly the same as last time, I just want us to kiss again." He lifted up his chin, baring his neck and taunted, "You're still touching my face."

Kakashi's face was still unreadable as he said, "Close your eyes."

Sasuke did as he was told and soon found his wrist pinned against the headboard again. Although, this time Kakashi was using both of his hands.

After a long moment, too long, long enough for Sasuke to worry, he said, "Kakashi - "

His words were cut off by an almost chaste kiss that Sasuke soon made sure became more by nibbling on Kakashi's bottom lip and arching his back. He also spread his legs further apart, as far as he could with Kakashi sitting on the top of his thighs.

Kakashi pressed Sasuke's wrists more tightly against the headboard and slowly meet Sasuke's needy actions by tentatively sliding his tongue into Sasuke's mouth.
