Pairing: Allen/Rinali
-
The world was a black fog and Rinali was running.
She had to find Allen before it was too late.
She could hear Allen’s heart beating next to her own, and it was growing fainter each moment. She didn’t question how or why she was able to feel him, she never had. It just was.
Her hands and knees were burning from scrapes she’s received from falling time and time again. Her legs could be broken, and she’d still find a way to keep running.
Each time Allen’s heartbeat grew softer and slower, hers grew faster and louder.
She had to find him before she could hear nothing but her own heartbeat.
Nothing else mattered, not her blood clinging to her body or the exhaustion running through it. Only finding Allen and making sure he didn’t die.
She would never lose anyone she loved again.
-
Allen’s purpose was done.
So he closed his eyes, turned his head, and waited to die.
(He could almost see Rinali cry when his eyes closed, begging him to stay alive and no he wasn’t done, he’d never be done, he had to live no matter what God said, and she was grabbing his shoulders and her nails were drawing blood and maybe he was crying a bit too.)
He pressed his fingers in the dirt, and tried to keep his heart beating, even if it was just long enough so that Rinali could find him, and they could have one last moment together.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly he couldn’t even hear the words himself.
(He could see her clearly now, and he could feel her tears on his face.)
-
When the black was being pierced by light, Rinali knew she’d found him.
For a moment, she was frozen and scared, when she saw him bathed in light and the only movement coming from him was the shallow rising and falling of his chest.
She wasn’t sure why she was afraid, he was right in front of her and his heart was still beating.
It was only when his mouth opened and she was sure that something she didn’t want to hear came out of mouth that she was able to push away whatever fear she was feeling and run to him.
Rinali fell to her knees when she was beside him and pressed her face into his neck.
“Please don’t cry,” Allen said.
“Then don’t die,” Rinali said as she moved her hand to his chest and felt for the steady beating of his heart.
They were both silent for awhile, and Rinali could literally feel the moments passing by. She squeezed her eyes even more tightly and her shoulders began to jerk awkwardly.
“Why is your hair is short?” Allen said suddenly.
Rinali rose up quickly and anger coursed through her body, and she was about to yell at him for being so stupid when he was dying -
But the words died in her throat because his eyes were opening and he was smiling at her.
“I’m sorry I made you cry,” Allen said as she dropped back down so she could embrace him fiercely.
