I went to the TOC yesterday. Hmmm, perhaps I should elaborate...
I got up, put on my spiffy new suit, bussed to campus and after my first class strode jauntily into the TOC. Some 2 hours later, exhausted, battered by crowds, overheating from lack of ventilation, and nigh unto crippled from high heels, I hobbled/staggered my way towards lunch and my afternoon classes. I felt wiped for the rest of the day.
On the good side, I think I got some pretty good talking done with some of the HR people for various companies like Argon SD, Lockheed Martin, EMC, etc. I handed out alot of resumes and got SWAG! My favoritest piece of swag was probably the carabiner pen (I kid you not, it's got a carabiner instead of a pocket clip) that EMC gave me. Most helpful swag was the swag bag that Lockheed Martin was kindly handing out to people to store their swag in. Very kind of them.
But swag aside, the TOC wasn't too bad. If I could've gone in jeans and sneakers it might even have been enjoyable. This year they had a few companies outside too, so if you got too overwhelmed by the oppressive push of the crowd you could escape to outside. An interesting experience all in all. Hate the suit (even if it was spiffy). Definitely hate the high heels. Definitely definitely hated the line of about 50 hopeful people standing in front of the Motorola booth, and in general just the crowd and noise. Part of me wishes they could have split the TOC up into two days. Half the student body goes one day, half the other day...but the HR people probably would hate that. I'm just glad I'm not attending the BOC today. Two days in a row in high heels? Somebody shoot me now.
That's all for now. Wish me luck on companies getting back to me! =)
