Remember to breathe- …..

Yeah, I keep forgetting to breathe. I’ve been here for 5 weeks now. It’s just amazing how quickly time slithers by us.

I’m actually a graduate student! I look at my classmates and they were the top of their classes in undergrad. I never once considered myself to be the top of my class, merely because I wasn’t. I wonder if I will succeed in this environment. I think I will, just barely though. Nonetheless, I think I’m going to really like my classes. They seem very interesting and with the way the classes are structured my interest will be piqued at all times. All my professors have been extremely helpful in making sure their classroom and lectures are accommodating to me. I have about 80-100 pages of reading to do every week, and a few large projects through the semester. I think my favorite class will be Student Development Theories. It’s going to be an incredibly challenging course, along with the Voice Project we have to do. I’ll write more about my Voice Project as time goes by; I’m extremely excited about this project.

I’m struggling with switching the term “we” from my undergrad to my current grad school. I miss the former though. I oftentimes find myself telling stories using we when it is now they. I’m sure as I learn more about the culture here, build stronger relationships and create memories I’ll eventually call they we and we they.

I get to strike this off my bucket list! Visit Cedar Point, OH The rides are incredible at Cedar Point. I really enjoyed the Maverick although we had to wait an hour and half in line! Made me think of when I went to Seabreeze earlier this summer with some friends. I love living near lakes, so relaxing, and the breeze is always relaxing.

The culture here is heavily influenced by the students and the environment, not the administrations. At my undergrad, all the policies, administration and faculty influence the culture and how students behave. The students here have a good amount of power, and athletes/team sports are highly respected on this campus. There’s nearly always some kind of outdoor activity or game going on. The hype at the moment is our fist home game this upcoming Friday against Minnesota and ESPNU will be covering it on TV! Watch it and let us show you how to wear orange and brown! We even have a sweet fight song, originated from South Africa. Ay Ziggy Zoomba!

P.S. the equation in my subject line means Behavior is the function of the interaction of the Person and the Environment. This semester I’m studying the person (hence, the voice project I mentioned earlier), and then next semester I’ll be studying the environment. By the time I graduate I’ll be able to study the overall behavior of college students. :-D
