Right after the Horrorfind dates were put up on the site I called up the Hunt Valley hotel and made my reservation.
I had been to DC on business about 4 times at that point and being a member of the Rewards deal had gathered enough points to pay for a nights stay at the time I made the reservation.
The lady that I was talking to told me that when/if I had enough points for the second night that I could call up and get the second night put in as paid for by the points as well.
I asked her if there was any limit to when I can call back to which she told me that I could wait until the day of if I wanted and get the night free while checking in.
I have been back to DC enough times to pay for the second night and probably two more if I were staying that long, but I had not called the hotel to get it taken care of because of what the lady had told me.
Well today I found myself with some extra time on my hands while waiting for a server format to finish, so I decided to call and get the points for the room taken care of only to be told that it was a first come first serve deal after all and that the slots for free points stays had already been taken.
I told the lady that I already had a room with one night paid for with points, so why can't she just alter it so that the second night is also point paid for. I was told that this wasn't possible...that it didn't work that way.
She asked me if there was anything else she could help me with to which I told her "You mean besides the nothing you have already done for me...nah I am set...I can do nothing for myself, but thanks for the offer."
This, as you can imagine didn't sit well with me, so I got back on the phone and worked my way to a customer service supervisor type person.
I told her the same story I had told the other reps I spoke with and she asked me to hold on while she called them to sort things out.
It took about 5 minutes, but she came back and told me that it was taken care of...the second night was now paid for with the points I have.
She also told me that the person that made my reservation and who also told me I could call back at anytime had apparently given her two week notice around then, so it must have been her going away present to the company and I just got caught in the cross fire.
Lucky me.
EDIT: I almost forgot about this part...
I was told that I could have made the reservation with both nights being taken care of with points...even if I didn't have enough to cover both of them.
She told me that if it turned out I didn't have enough to cover both, that it was easier to change it from points to money than from money to points.
I find that kind of odd (shifty)...don't you?
