The discussion of my political views came up today. Am I Conservative or Liberal? Is there something in between? I'm not sure where I fall cause I usually don't discuss politics, well most people at work don't. Might be the fact that we're in the military. Don't know.
The reason I don't discuss it, usually when I hear people discuss politics it just sounds like they are spouting out opinions. "I think this is what so and so should do." or "If I was him I'd do that." I don't want to sound like that, well I do sound like that when I talk about sports.
That doesn't mean I won't discuss it if someone brings it up. I'll give my best views and opinions if you'd like.
The big one right now is Immigration rights.
I've heard a couple things here and there about what's going on. Charge illegal immigrants with a felony? Not sure if that's true. I'm not even sure of the current laws. I know it's illegal to come into the country via certain means, but once here they are to be treated fairly.
This from
American Civil Liberties Union site.
"It is true that the Constitution does not give foreigners the right to enter the U.S. But once here, it protects them from discrimination based on race and national origin and from arbitrary treatment by the government. Immigrants work and pay taxes; legal immigrants are subject to the military draft. Many immigrants have lived in this country for decades, married U.S. citizens, and raised their U.S.-citizen children. Laws that punish them violate their fundamental right to fair and equal treatment."
It's sounds like a tricky situation all around. I'm for immigration, again I'm in the military. So many of my friends and co-workers are second generation Americans, some are first generation cause they were born in Mexico, Cuba, Columbia, Poland or the Philipines amongst other places. So yeah, I support immigration I guess, but my thing is immigration as long as they are willing to be a productive part of society.
I know that is the complaint that people who are opposed to immigration is that they fear someone is coming to steal their jobs. That's just dumb. If you're worried about that then you need a better job because most that come to the country aren't here to "Steal jobs". They come here to get jobs and they do jobs that most spoiled Americans refuse to do. Come to SoCal and check out the car washes or people busting their asses doing the landscaping. All the down and dirty, break your back jobs. They work work work. So I don't have a problem with that.
I only have a problem with the ones that refuse to do work or do things that are less than legal. Then again I have the same issue with Americans that do the same thing.
I feel if they want to make things tougher, then people are going to go to more drastic means. If they're going to come, then make better efforts to track them, but allow them to have a chance. Just like the ones that came from europe years and years ago. If they decide to do nothing, then they can figure out a proper solution then. Maybe that's harsh. Maybe that's what all the fuss is about right now. Maybe I should pay attention to the news more. You tell me.
Okay, there is my attempt to sound thought provoking.
