no picture today
Ok, so it's been a while since I've had the good old internet. I just had to go pay another R57 so that I could get fast internet again (I used all mine up uploading pictures). This weekend was fairly uneventful. I cooked my Mama dinner (spaghetti with sauteed vegetables and chicken and salad). They seemed to like it alright, although my neighbor/sister Siphokazi insisted that I "add some flavor" to the meat - ie salt and chicken spices. It was alright though. I went to a born again church on sunday again. My favorite quote was the preacher ranting against abortion: "the only reason abortion exists today is because the cosmetic industry uses the fetuses to make makeup so that women can have faces like babies" and "in order to eradicate poverty, unemployment, and AIDS, we must first eradicate abortion." I feel that he was slightly uninformed. I had to keep myself from busting out laughing in the middle of the service.
I don't have a whole lot of time this week - I have a paper due wednesday, a Xhosa exam on thursday, and then friday we leave for our rural homestay for a week. I should really go work on the paper now. I also need to do a bit of research on a topic I'm thinking about doing my Independent Study Project on - we meet with our Academic Director about our proposals tomorrow.
I've been feeling like a total bum lately - just sleeping, eating, and "absorbing the culture." I finally went running today and feel much better. Hopefully I'll be able to keep it up. It's really hard because we can't go out by ourselves when we're at our houses in New Brighton so you have to exercise at school, as well as check email and write papers. So I'm trying to budget my time, maybe next semester I'll be organized...
