This American Life - Testosterone

Hi there, podcast listeners. Um, I mean, people who see my LJ when I occasionally post,

Listen to this week's This American Life podcast. Originally aired in 2002, but still awesome.

I can't fathom a world in which everybody who reads my LJ doesn't know what TAL is. If you don't you shock me, but trust me, it's awesome, and Ira Glass is the greatest famous Brown grad ever. Yes, he could take Laura Linney. Hard.

Anyway, this week's (old but still awesome) episode is about testosterone.

There are lots of acts - it's a four-acter, plus the standard prologue, but the one I think is really interesting is about Griffen, a transman who now totally passes. He talks about how his life has changed since he graduated from Bryn Mawr and went on T. His story is good, interesting, and in many instances, hilarious (think ways in which Griffen became a typical male that he never would have expected). All of the stories this week are good, but if you can only listen to part of the story, listen to his. He's Act 2, Infinite Gent.

Another highlight is a funny little bit in which the whole TAL staff + David Rakoff and Sarah Vowell take a test to see how much testosterone they each have in their bodies. The contestosterone. They try to decide how much your level of testosterone affects your personality. But anyway, mostly listen to Infinite Gent.
