Decisions, decisions - what do *you* think?

Since handwork is beyond me for the next week or so and I have no measurements yet for the scholar's gown, I find myself with construction time on my hands. So - do I start:
1. The rose linen Italians or
2. The new Dutch kirtle?

The advantage to the Italians is that I already have a camica. The linen is very heavy, and a pale bugundy/rose color, and I would like to get it out of the fabric closet. The disadvantage is that I don't have the velvet ribbon I want to trim it in, and I can't decide on a color (dark plum? Dark olive? Navy? Gold?) I also need to figure out how much ribbon to get and in what width (I think 1" is probably fine...) The dress will be based on Vincenzo Campi's "Fishmongers" if I want a front closure, or it may be based on his kitchen scene if I want a side-back closure. Better decide that quick.

The advantage to the kirtle is that it would be progress on my 16th c. Dutch stuff before carbonphoenix leaves for Germany. It gets some red linen out of the fabric closet, and the pattern will serve as a basis for gown, which will get some olive wool and grey-brown linen used up, too. The disadvantage is that I've never made one before, so I'm intimidated by it.
