A [short] reversal of my decision

Have to interrupt my silence, this is too irritating to pass.

A loud noise had disturbed my peaceful Saturday breakfast at 10am. There were shouts and drumbeat on the street, half-a-block away. From my window I could only see a parked patrol car, so I grabbed my camera and went outside to find out.

I have written about this subject before, here. ( Read more... )

The Brooklyn Paper is good for lining the bottom of bird or snake cages, but not much else. The editors of that rag are just as adamently opposed to the impending-for what seems like the last decade-construction of an Ikea in Red Hook.

Obviously, the time machine that will take us back to the industrial age, and revive the waterfront with non-existent factories, is just around the corner if you work for a far-left, anti-growth throwaway. Personally, I think they've red A View from the Bridge one too many times. Not that I blame them, seeing as how it was Arthur Miller's only play that wasn't execrable.

I've tried The Fountainhead a few times-in literary, cinematic and audio recording form-without much success, although I'm always willing to take another shot at interesting concepts. I had this conversation with Oleg a while back debating the merits of her work as a novelist. I guess Rand's disdain for naturalism/realism is something I don't share, which is why I probably find her political and philosophical essays/speeches more digestible. My old debate coach in high school was a big fan of her work, which is kind of strange for someone who was a UFT organizer, but it takes all kinds I suppose.

Anyway, now I'm just meandering now. Hope your weekend wasn't completely ruined-at the very least, you composed an interesting montage of photos, which chronicle the routinized idiocy of certain parts of this borough's body politic.
