Excerpt of the day!

Phedea heard the door knock. “Come in,” she sighed. She did not look back as the door opened behind her.

“Hello mother,” she said, still without looking back. “Come to gloat? Come to tell me the good news?”

“Hello Phedea,” a deep voice which definitely was not her mother’s.

Phedea turned round quickly, and felt a sharp pain in her neck.

“Oh,” Phedea said with distaste. “It’s you.”

“You sound very enthusiastic,” her husband replied. “Considering that you are meant to come back to me by the end of this.”

Phedea turned her back to the door and to him again.

“I would rather die,” she said under her breath. “It would be a fate worse than death.”

Her husband walked forward angrily and grabbed her arm and turned her roundn forcefully. Phedea cried out.

“Stop, stop,” she was nearly in tears. “You are hurting me.”

"Listen to me you little bitch," her husband said angrily. "If it were not for me, you would be dead right now. You should be thanking me and crawling back to me on your knees, not treating me like this."

"Let go of me," Phedea screamed. "Let go of me, let go!"

Her husband sighed, and loosened his hold on her slioghtly, but did not let go.

"The human is going to die Phedea," he told her, with finality in his voice. "That is a fact. Now if you want to live too, I suggest you start considering your options. Right now, I am feeling forgiving. Some other time, I might feel less so."

He let go of her hand and stepped out of he room.

"Think of what I said," he told her, closing the door after him.

It was only when she heard his retreating footsteps and she was sure that he was gone that she allowed herself to start to cry.

I've been thinking of this scene for a long time, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. :)
